US Nightclub Shooting in Florida

Police say about 20 people are dead and another 42 wounded following a shooting and hostage taking inside an Orlando nightclub early this morning.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement says police are investigating the incident as an act of terrorism, and are looking into whether it was an act of domestic or international terror, and
if the shooter was a lone wolf.

Police say the gunman was killed in a shootout with officers when a SWAT team entered the club to rescue hostages. 

Walmart Will No Longer Accept VISA At Canadian Locations

A retail analyst and strategist says six of 10 Canadian Walmart customers are going to be disappointed by the retailer's decision to no longer accept Visa cards.

Walmart Canada released a statement yesterday saying Visa card fees are “unacceptably high.” Walmart stores in the US will continue to accept the credit card.

The first stores to stop accepting Visa will be in Thunder Bay, Ontario on July 18th and the change will be rolled out Canada-wide in phases.

Garth Brooks Pays Tribute To Gordie Howe

Country legend Garth Brooks paid tribute to “Mr. Hockey'' as he opened back-to-back shows in Saskatoon this weekend. Brooks wore a Gordie Howe  Detroit Red Wings jersey on stage
Friday night, telling the crowd it was an honour to be playing in Howe's hometown.

He also took to social media, tweeting “May we all mean to our
sport what Mr. Hockey meant to his.'' Howe died Friday at the age of 88.

Alberta New Democrats

Alberta New Democrats wrap up their party convention in Calgary today, their first since winning a majority in last year's election.

Premier Rachel Notley gave a spirited speech to delegates yesterday, saying even with an expected 10-billion-dollar deficit amid plunging oil prices, they will protect core services and not pass on the “economic shock” to Alberta families. Notley received more than 20 standing ovations during her speech.

 

 

 

 

 

The Messiah's Mansion is visiting Dauphin from June 11th - 19th beginning today.

The life size sanctuary replica is designed to educate Dauphin residents about historical temples of old and what they mean to us today.

Pastor Ricardo Mena of the Seventh Day Adventist Church says, "It's a great privilege to have this exhibit come through Dauphin."

Tours will run from 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm pausing at each station for about 15 minutes to explain the services and symbols of that station. 

Admission to the exhibit is free. 

The Manitoba Government says people in the province seeking medical assistance in dying no longer must ask permission from the courts.
