This year's Northwest Round Up and Exhibition wrapped up on Sunday in Swan River.

Wayne Antichow is with the Swan Valley Ag Society

"I think it went fairly well!  Our attendance was not as good as it was last year when we had the RCMP Musical Ride.  But it is very comparable to other years."

Antichow says the weather was ideal for the entire weekend.

Clean-up is taking place on the grounds today, and Wayne says work on next year's exhibition will begin shortly.

A large crowd, many with ties to either the Ebb & Flow or Pine Creek First Nations, turned up today for the ribbon-cutting to officially open the new Anishinabe Aki service station on Main Street South in Dauphin.

A joint project between the two communities, the land for the building was first purchased 20 years ago, with shovels going into the ground in May of last year.

In his remarks at the opening, Pine Creek Chief Derek Nepinak congratulated both councils on their perserverence in seeing this project through to the end.
"Like I said in my comments, we were offered the purchase price plus 10 per cent.  So it would have been an easy way for us to grab a few dollars and walk away.  But we decided, and with speaking with the late Chief Ralph Beaulieau in Ebb & Flow, let's hold on to this and turn something into money for us in the future."
Nepinak added that the service station will benefit future generations of both First Nations.

Dauphins's Sarah Shuttleworth will be presented the King Charles III Coronation medal in Ottawa tomorrow.

Shuttleworth is a tireless volunteer with a number of organizations, including Friendship Centres at the local, provincial, and national levels.

Sarah has also given her time in the past to the NAFC's Indigenous youth council, as well as the provincial and national Indigenous Law Students association, as well as being a board member of the Dauphin RIDE program.

The King Charles III Coronation Medal recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to their community, with Shuttleworth's award recognizing her for volunteer contributions.
The AgriStability program was an important topic during a recent virtual meeting of the country's federal, provincial, and territorial agriculture ministers.
The ministers reiterated their commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of business risk management programs, given the uncertain trade environment and unfavourable climate conditions in parts of the country.
Dauphin MLA and Manitoba Ag Minister Ron Kostyshyn says the ministers agreed to take the necessary steps to implement a package of enhancements to the AgriStability program.

"Manitoba was the first province to move forward with the support towards the 80 to 90 per cent in the maximum payment limit, and also increasing the 3 million to 6 million.  A the end of the day, in that lengthy discussion that we had, we fully support the proposal moving forward."

In addition, starting in the 2026 AgriStability program year, provinces and territories will have the option to use a new inventory valuation method for inventories destined to be used on-farm.

Monday is a big day for both the Pine Creek and Ebb & Flow First Nations.

The long-anticipated Grand Opening of their Petro-Canada gas station in Dauphin is set for 11:30 Monday morning.

Ground was broken in May of last year for the Anishinabe Aki service station.

It's located on Main Street South, next to the Super 8.

A Boil Water Advisory will be in place as of 6 am Monday for the Russell portion of the Russell-Binscarth public water system.

A fire hydrant replacement on Monday in the back alley of Bicknell Boulevard and Alexandria Avenue will lead to a loss of water pressure throughout the community.

Residents in Russell will need to bring their water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for any type of consumption.

That includes drinking, food or drink preparation - including baby formula, or brushing your teeth.

The boil water advisory will stay in place until further notice.

Residents wanting more info on the Boil Water Advisory are asked to go online to www.russellbinscarth.ca/local-news

Monday at 10:30 am is the first deadline for landowners within the Inter Mountain Watershed District to submit samples of their well water for testing.

The testing is for total cholaform bacteria and E-Coli.

Project manager Chance Hulley says sample bottles can be picked up from the IMWD offices in Ethelbert or Ste Rose.

"You can pick up the sample bottles at any time from one of our offices.  And then we do have to get them into the labs within 36 hours, so what we do is ask the landowner to take the sample that morning, and then drop them off.  Then we make sure that they are shipped directly and get to the lab that day."

Samples can be dopped off at your local municipal office.

There is a cost to the landowner of $17.67 per sample.

There are also sample drop off dates set for late August and September.
