Boxes of Love is taking place today at the Dauphin Market Place Mall.
Lindsay Rubeniuk, a volunteer with Boxes of Love, tells 730 ckdm this year they have a special request.
“If you donate 20 dollars, then that 20 dollars actually buys a pair of shoes for our children in Nadvirna Ukraine. If you want to donate a little bit more every amount counts. So, $75 actually ships a box of supplies for us. We also put a challenge out to local hotels and anyone else to donate their lotions and conditioners.”
This collection drive helps over 100 students at the Internat in Nadvirna Ukraine who need school supplies and running shoes.

A planned hydro outage for Ste. Rose, Makinak, Shergrove, north to Christian Beach and south to Laurier is scheduled for Saturday.
This outage will impact 900 customers from 6:00 until 9:00 in the morning.
Manitoba Hydro needs to replace the underground cables at the Ste. Rose substation.

One person is dead and another uninjured in a roll-over this morning just south of Ashern.
An SUV was driving northbound around 2:30 when it rolled into the ditch.
A 42-year-old female driver from Powerview was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle and later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
The 53-year-old male passenger from Hollow Water First Nation was not injured. It’s not known at this time if he was wearing his seatbelt.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision.
Police continue to investigate.

Paul Flett, 67-years-old from Duck Bay, was in court yesterday for his role in the hunting accident involving the shooting of a 16-year-old boy.
Flett was hunting beaver near Pulp River, which is 99 km North of Dauphin, when he heard a noise and fired into the bush, striking the boy who was also hunting.
He pleaded guilty to Careless Use of a Fire Arm earlier this year and will reappear in court for sentencing on June 5.

A local random act of kindness on Facebook spread across the Parkland.
Dauphin’s Tara Aitken tells 730 CKDM about her experience with an outstanding employee at a local business.
“A few times when I have gone through A&W’s Drive Thru, Erica had always been the person who works at the drive thru and she has always been absolutely fabulous. She’s super nice, super kind and that is exactly how she was on Friday and it had been a fairly busy day for her earlier she said, and yet she still had a smile and still was friendly. That was my experience and she just makes you want to come back, you know. She makes you feel like you’re the only person that she is dealing with even though she has a lot going on.”
Erica Chartrand, was taken aback by the post she saw on Facebook.
“When I read that post, I was actually working and I stopped. I got these butterfly feelings, my hands were just shaking and I was so happy and proud of myself. I screenshotted it, and I was thinking it wouldn’t get more than 80 Likes and then sure enough, 100, and then it kept continuing and progressing. I was just happy and I wanted to let my team know that it's not only me, it’s all of us doing it.”
The post on Facebook received over 200 Likes in a very short period of time.

Magical Horizons Daycare will be closed until Monday.
The Dauphin daycare had a sewer backup today that affected the entire building.
They now have to have the building professionally cleaned.
Parents are being contacted tonight and the daycare is sorry for the inconvenience.

A fire ban has been issued in the RM of Lakeshore.
Effective immediately all open fires will not be permitted.
All fire permits will be suspended around Rorketon and the surrounding area.
No new fire permits are going to be issued.

Dauphin Consumers Co-op showed strong results in all of their sectors.
During their AGM last night, board members spoke about the success they have had in 2017.
Lorne Eiffert, the General Manager, tells 730CKDM the support from the community is what really drives their success.
“Last year was a fantastic result for Dauphin Co-op. We had great earnings from the year prior and sales were up as well. Definitely, in all divisions, we have seen great improvements. Last year we had a little bit more increase on the ag side do to the wet fall in 2016.”
During the meeting, 3 Board Members were elected including Brendan Gardner, Dale Seale, and David Swanton.
Active membership of the Dauphin Co-op as of today is at 10,296.
The co-op saw growth this year with sales reaching over 80 million dollars.

The standoff yesterday, between Brandon Police and a 43 year old man, ended with the man being transported to hospital for mental health treatment.
Police arrived around 3:30 yesterday and stayed until 1:00 in the morning when the man exited the residence and was taken into police custody.
As officers approached the residence, the suspect was observed holding a knife and began to threaten Police.
The suspect stated he also had Molotov cocktails and a chainsaw and threatened Police with these.
After some failed attempts at negotiating with the suspect to calm down, officers heard the man start up a chainsaw.
Continued dialogue led Police to believe that the man might have been experiencing a Mental Health Crisis.
A police investigation continues to determine if Criminal Charges will be laid.

A stand off between a man barricading himself in a home and Brandon police is ongoing.
Brandon police and their SWAT vehicle along with heavily-armed officers are currently on Louise Avenue between 15th Street and 16th.
Witnesses say emergency vehicles started to arrive in the mid afternoon after someone barricaded themselves inside a two-story home.
Police are still on the scene into the night.

When is the Dauphin MRI coming, is the question on everyone’s mind.
NDP Health Critic, Andrew Swan, asked the question during Estimate.
“With great fanfare a couple of months ago, the minister announced that in fact there would be a MRI in Dauphin. This week I had the chance to ask the minister about it in a process called Estimates, and I though on behalf of the people of Dauphin and people of the Parkland, I would try to get a better answer. I asked the minister when the MRI would be up and running, I was kind of surprised that not only did he not have an answer, but he was pretty glib about the whole thing.”
Local MLA Brad Michaleski, explains why it’s hard to give a specific date.
“There is construction going on right now at the Dauphin Regional Hospital, with the emergency room upgrade that is going on. So do you know if those two things are going to be operational together or separately, I don’t know, but what’s important is that our government is committed to bringing the MRI to Dauphin and we’re continuing on with that path.”
This past December, the provincial government announced they were going to follow through with the MRI in Dauphin.
