The final numbers are in for the 4th annual Pack the Pumper/ Cram the Cruiser Holiday Food Drive, and the total is mind boggling.
The Dauphin RCMP Detachment and the Dauphin Fire Department had their friendly competition this year, and between the two groups, over 4000 lbs of food have been donated to the Dauphin Food Bank.
The wager between them this year: posing for a picture in the other teams vehicles.
The RCMP would have to suit up and get a picture taken in the pumper truck, or the fire chief himself would have to get his picture taken locked in the back of the cruiser.
Both teams brought in mountains of non-perishables to the food bank this morning.
Fire Chief Cam Abrey and his team hauled in 1125 lbs of food.
The RCMP's Mark-Eric LeRoux meanwhile brought in some record breaking numbers with 3219 lbs of non perishable items
Food wasn't the only thing donated, as the teams also recieved a collective $2,385 in monetary donations. This money will also go straight to the food bank, funding the purchase of perishable food items for their hot meal program.
Both Abery and LeRoux were proud to have taken part in this charity event, and note that it couldn't have been done with out the amazing generosity and many donations of the citizens of Dauphin.
Thanks to the hard work, the many donations, and a little bit of friendly banter, thousands of meals will be provided to the people that need them this year.

With this large dumping of snow that we have received, the City of Dauphin has launched its efforts to remove the snow from streets and sidewalks.
Snow removal has begun on priority routes, with work slated to start at around 10 pm tonight on Main Street and the Downtown area.
In a post on their Facebook page, the city says crews will be working throughout the weekend to clear roadways and sidewalks.
They are also asking motorists to refrain from parking in these areas until they have been cleared.

Manitoba First Nations Police Service in Sandy Bay is investigating a possible shooting on the reserve.
Just after 11 pm Wednesday night, officers were called to a residence in the 100 block of 175 Main Road after a report of an assault.
They arrived to find a male suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm as well as other injuries.
The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Officers believe the victim may have been injured at a different location on Sandy Bay, and are looking to the public to help them with any information.

Ten gorgeously decorated trees were auctioned off at last night's Charity Christmas Tree Auction.
The Best Western hotel in Dauphin reached out to the Dauphin & District Community Foundation to help organize this event, and to donate the proceeds.
Each of the 10 trees were purchased by a business in Dauphin, and decorated in kind.
Afterwords, Larry Garton, of Garton's Auction Service, helped auction off every last tree to the highest bidders.
The nights sales totalled $1710, with the top-seller being the Fusion Credit Union tree, selling for $360.
There was also an award for Best Decorated Tree, which was won by the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy crew, for their tree decorated with all sorts of sweets.
Today, the trees will roll out to the families in the area to really ring in the holiday season.

An Ebb & Flow First Nations woman will be back in court in February in connection with a drug bust on the reserve.
RCMP in Ste Rose said that on September 20th, they raided a home and seized crystal meth, cocaine, and other drug-related paraphernalia, as well as cash and an unsecured firearm.
35-year-old Christine Mancheese was taken into custody on several charges.
She appeared in court this week and had her matters put over until February 13th.

If you have yet to make a donation to this year's "Pack the Pumper-Cram the Cruiser" Food Bank Challenge, you are running out of time to do so.
Today is the final day that donations of non-perishable food items or cash are being accepted at either the Dauphin Fire Department or the Dauphin RCMP Detachment.
It's the fourth year for the friendly competition between the two emergency services organizations to see who can collect the most donations for the Dauphin Food Bank, in order to help that organization stock their shelves for what is traditionally a very busy Christmas season for them.
Final weigh-ins of donations will take place on Friday at 10 am.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued snowfall warnings for a majority of the Parkland region.
What is forecast to begin as rain this evening is expected to turn to freezing rain and then heavy snow tonight, with up to 15 cm expected by time the snow tapers off Friday afternoon.
Gusty winds of up to 60 km an hour will cause blowing snow and reduced visibility on Friday.
The weather service cautions you to be ready to adjust your driving, as the combination of accumulating snow and wind could make road conditions difficult to travel on, coupled with reduced visibility.

A Dauphin man will be back in court on January 23rd in relation to a violent assault from last year.
In November of 2022, Yellowhead RCMP said a woman was assaulted, leading to severe, life-threatening injuries.
39-year-old Wayne Becks was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and uttering death threats.
Becks appeared in Minnedosa court earlier this week where his case was adjourned until the new year.

The First Annual Christmas tree Auction will be taking place tonight, hosted by the Best Western Hotel.
Local Businesses will be decorating trees between 6pm to 7pm, and will be competing for the place of "best Decorated tree".
At 7 PM, Garton's auction services will be auctioning these artificially lit trees off for charity.
The trees will go to Families in Dauphin that need them this year, and the proceeds will be donated to that DDCF!
Kit Daley with the DDCF is excited for a great turn out for this charity night.
"We encourage people to bring an item for the food bank, a non-perishable item for the food bank, and to come and hopefully bid on a tree."
Business entry fees are $130 dollars, but anyone can come to this event and bid on these tree. As Kit notes though, non-perishable food donations are highly encourraged.

A fiscal update released Tuesday shows Manitoba's new N-D-P government is facing a ballooning deficit.
The update says that the deficit is now projected to come in at 1.6 billion dollars, which is more than four times the original amount listed in the province's spring budget.
A softening economy and a major downturn in Manitoba Hydro's numbers are being cited as reasons for the huge deficit, along with increased expenses driven by inflation, new health-care costs and recent collective agreements in the public sector.
Premier Wab Kinew has previously accused the former Progressive Conservative government of hiding the state of the province's finances before voters went to the polls.

The second annual Christmas Celebration and Santa Claus Parade of Lights is set for this Friday evening in Gilbert Plains.
Courtney Roehl - the CAO for the Municipality of Gilbert Plains - says they have a full evening of activities planned.
"The Dauphin Kings are coming out for a street hockey game with some of our local youth. That will be between 5:30 and 6:15 right on Main Street in front of the EMS building. Following that our parade of lights starts at 6:30, and follows our usual parade route, going from the elementary school, past the care home, and then around town."
"Following the parade, we have the Christmas tree lighting, a bonfire, cookies and hot chocolate, pictures with the Grinch, a Christmas movie, and sleigh rides, all happening from the EMS building."
Roehl says they are expecting a big crowd for the events.
"Compared to last year, we have almost double the amount of floats in our parade, and we are expecting quite a few people to be watching and participating in our events."
"I think it is good to just get the community together and celebrate different aspects, including recreation and family, while keeping traditions of the Christmas tree lighting, hot chocolate, and the sleigh rides."
Roehl says they already have twice as many floats signed up for this year's parade, but adds there is room for more.
