Around 60 percent of cattle have been registered in Manitoba’s Premises I.D. program.
The program is mandated by the provincial government to ensure a timely response to a crisis.
Kari-Ann Weddall from Manitoba Agriculture says this program is vital to help officials deal with health emergencies.
“It’s important because this allows for rapid notification of livestock to livestock and poultry stakeholders to help prepare for an animal health or food safety emergency. It can also help track animals in the event of an emergency. Reduce the impact of an emergency and even help sustain or increase market access.”
Weddall suggests producers go online to Manitoba agriculture’s website to learn more about the program and register their livestock.

More snow is expected in the Parkland as Environment Canada’s winter storm warning is still in effect.
A final wave of snow is expected to add an additional 10 to 15 cm of snow through tonight.
All roads that were previously closed have been reopened.
Officials warn of hazardous winter conditions while out on the roads.

If you want to find out where education dollars are going in the Parkland, think about watching the division’s Public Budget Consultation.
Mountain View School Division’s forum has been postponed until Wednesday at 7 in the division’s office and is also streamed online.
Donna Davidson, Superintendent CEO for the division, explains how it can be viewed from home.
“They would go to Mountain View School Division Website, MVSD.ca, and there will be a link to the streaming of the budget forum. If they are not able to view it that evening a copy of the budget consultation will be left on the website and there will be opportunities for feedback on the website.”
This is an opportunity to learn how the reduction in funding by the province will impact education.

A Diabetes Expo is being held in Dauphin, starting on Friday.
The Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy is hosting this event.
Barret Procyshyn, Pharmacist at the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy, talks about the Expo.
“Were a supporter of Diabetes Canada, so Diabetes Canada and the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy have come together and were going to have two days of Diabetes Expos. One is March 9th at the Dauphin Friendship Centre in the evening and the other is during the day (on Saturday) at the Dauphin Multi-Purpose Senior centre.”
The event is free to the public and will have important information, expert advice, free food and awesome prizes.

The Baby and Child Expo in Dauphin is coming up at the DRCSS gymnasium.
The Fourth Annual Expo is on Saturday, March 10th at 10:00 in the morning.
Cathy Cyr, Member of South Parkland Healthy Child Coalition explains what will be happening.
“It is for families with young children, grandparents, aunts, uncles and anyone that has an interest in young children. So we have about 40 vendors that display family based products. There’s photography, homemade products and business, all family based and there’s also information from the library about child care, health and nutrition, information for parents.”
The event is free to attend and there will be giveaways for attendees.

The Winter Storm has caused bus cancellations for the Parkland.
All buses are cancelled across the school division due to the current winter storm for Mountain View School Division, the Turtle River School Division, and the Swan Valley School Division. Schools are closed for Rolling River School Division, Park West School Division, the Rural Schools in the Swan Valley School Division, CCLAS school and in the Frontier School Division for Rorketon, Waterhen, Skownan, Pine Creek, Camperville, Gypsumville, Lake Front, and Duck Bay.

The winter storm warning for all of the Parkland remains in effect.
The Colorado Low is expected to dump another 10-15 cm of snow today and this evening.
Manitoba Highways has closed the south junction of Highway 10 to the north junction Dauphin By-Pass this morning long with the Highway 10 through Riding Mountain National Park.
Highways are being reported as snow packed, with drifting snow and reduced visibility.
Drivers should use extreme caution when travelling.

One expert in Winnipeg recommends watering your foundation to stop major cracks from forming.

A Major winter storm is expected to begin tomorrow night.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement saying a Colorado Low is anticipated to hit the Parkland area.
This winter storm will bring heavy snow, freezing rain, strong winds, and blowing snow to parts of southern Manitoba starting Sunday night and likely lasting until Tuesday.
It’s expected to cause travel delays in some areas of the Parkland.

Pam Little, from McCreary, was nominated for a Women of Distinction Award from the YWCA.
Her friends decided to nominate for the award, for all the work she has done within her community.
Pam is taken back, about being recognized for her contributions to the McCreary area by members of her community.
“I think it’s quite an honour. It’s nice because you’re nominated by people that you work on community events and committees with. That makes it special, they’re good friends. I think that my only hesitation is that there are lots of women who don’t have the privileges that I do; that do as much in their lives as I do, or more.”
The 31st Annual YWCA Women of Distinction Gala takes place in Brandon on Thursday.
