Parkland RCMP detachment is set to hold a Community Policing Town Hall tonight (Tuesday).
Dauphin RCMP Sergeant Scott Linklater says it has been a while since they have held an event like this.
"We will provide an update on what the detachment does, who we are, what we are doing, and how we are policing the community. Just give an update on what is going on, some tips on personal property security, and then I would like to finish with an opportunity for the public to ask some questions."
Linklater says they will not be able to answer questions related to specific police investigations, but rather policing in general.
"That is a big reason why we are doing the town hall, is we want to provide that forum for people to ask questions and have that discussion in an open manner so that everyone gets the same message."
Sergeant Scott Linklater feels it is important to have open discussions like this with the public.
"I do not think it is something that we do often enough, and I think that is where some of the misconceptions about what police do and what we are busy doing comes into play. So I think maybe having that discussion clarifies what responsibilities are placed on police right now, what we are dealing with, and how the community can actually help out."
He adds their duties are way more than policing.
"What we do in our day-to-day business is not just a police issue, it is a community issue. There are addictions and homelessness. And that is where the community can step up and help out as well. We all need to work to make Dauphin and the area a better place to live."
The town hall event begins at 7 pm tonight (Tuesday) in the Aspen Lodge at the Parkland Recreation Complex.

It was slightly cheaper to fuel up your vehicle in Manitoba over the past week.
According to the website GasBuddy.com, the average price for a litre of regular fuel in the province as 0.5 cents a litre cheaper over the past seven days to 152.24 cents.
The national average price also fell during the past week, dropping a full cent to 150.04 cents a litre.
The provincial average price is now 3.6 cents cheaper than one month ago, and 23.1 cents a litre cheaper than on this day one year ago.
Here in Dauphin, prices range from 153.6 to 154.9 cents per litre.

A 28-year-old Dauphin man is in custody following an incident in the city's south end on Saturday night.
Just before 8 pm that night, Dauphin RCMP were called to a home on 6th Avenue SW after a report of a man with a gun.
A suspect was taken into custody, although he initially refused to co-operate.
A subsequent search found the man was wearing body armour and had an imitation revolver, along with ammunition and a baton. He was also in possession of 18 grams of suspected magic mushrooms, 26 grams of suspected cocaine, as well as marijuana, unmarked cigarettes, and other drug paraphernalia.
Among the charges laid against Joshua Mckay were Possession for the Purpose of trafficking, Possession of Body Armour, Possession of Ammunition while Prohibited, and weapons possession.
He remains in custody, with no information on a court date being released.

As part of Ag Appreciation Week here at 730 CKDM, we're highlighting local voices on the importance of the Agricultural sector in Dauphin and the area.
Terron Stykalo, president of the Dauphin Ag Society is well aware of this significance.
"I think it's extremely important. you look around locally and there are certainly many different sectors we have right in our community. You can look a the greenhouse influence we have. We have a poultry influence, we have a dairy influence, we have a hog influence, and probably our biggest influence grain crops."
These influences have a very notable presence in the community as well, as Stykalo notes how many public areas have ag-based sponsors.
"Locally, businesses around here, certainly thrive on agriculture. a big part of this community was agriculture, and still is agriculture, with many things surrounding it. The Dauphin Kings with all the ag sponsors. even if you go to our curling rink, there are many ag businesses that have banners hanging on the wall."
Stykalo and the Ag Society try to help bridge the gap between urban and rural communities
"We try to bring people to the farm. we host something like our fair, and we certainly go back to our roots of the horse show, we're together with 4H and they have a beef and sheep show. And we do all these things to try and bring the community a little bit closer to Ag."
While it's no easy task, Stykalo notes it's crucial to keep this agricultural presence to educate more urban populations about food security.
"This is where a lot of their food comes from, right here. you step back 20 years ago, guys had some livestock, and some grain, and a lot of the time it was a lifestyle choice. you had some cattle that fed your family. you look a the average producer, and they're putting food not only on their own table but on tables all around the world."
The real message that Sytkalo wants to highlight, is the hard work of everyone involved across the agricultural landscape.
"Whether you're a dealership, or an ag retailer, from insurance to the local co-op here where you pick up your groceries, everyone takes pride in the jobs they do, and we appreciate when we hear a thank you, so thank you".

Today (November 13) is the day that local country music fans have been anxiously waiting for.
Countryfest general Manager Kamryn Winters says tickets for their 2024 show go on sale to the general public as of 10 am this morning.
With the likes of Alabama, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Jodee Messia returning to the festival, Winters is excited for the 2024 show.

The Dauphin and District Community Foundation will be one of the benefactors of a new initiative by Tim Horton's Restaurants.
For over 25 years, Tim Hortons has become synonymous with its annual Smile Cookie campaign. This year, they are expanding the program with their first-ever Holiday Smile Cookie campaign.
Starting today until November 19, 100 per cent of proceeds from each Holiday Smile Cookie sold will be donated to local charities and community groups.
Here in Dauphin, proceeds from the Holiday Smile Cookie Campaign at the local Tim Horton's restaurant will be divided between the Dauphin and District Community Foundation, and Tim Horton's Foundation Camps.
The campaign was created to give Tim Horton’s guests an opportunity to give back this holiday season and help to continue making a difference in their communities.

Thursday night was a busy one for Dauphin RCMP as they dealt with three separate impaired driving events.
The first occurred at around 11:20 pm when police pulled over a truck driving erratically in a commercial parking lot on Main Street South. The roadside breath sample taken from the 49-year-old male driver from Winnipeg produced a "warning" rating, which resulted in his licence being suspended for 72 hours and his vehicle being impounded for three days. He also received a ticket for driving carelessly.
About 45 minutes later, another truck was pulled over, this time with a 39-year-old male from Dauphin behind the wheel. That driver failed his breathalyzer test, which resulted in his licence being suspended for 90 days and his vehicle being impounded for 30 days.
Then at 12:45 AM that evening, a Ford Focus was pulled over on 1st Avenue SW. Police found that the vehicle was unregistered with an incorrect licence plate, while the driver, a 37-year-old man from the Skownan First Nation, was driving without a valid licence. A breath test conducted on the driver also produced a "Warning" result. He was given a 15-day driving prohibition, was issued several tickets under the Highway Traffic Act, and had his car impounded for three days.
Dauphin RCMP reminds the public to plan ahead and consider different options rather than driving after consuming alcohol.

A landmark event for the Gambler First Nation is allowing them to pay it forward.
The Gambler First Nation has recently voted in favor of an individual agreement on First Nations Land Claim Payout, yielding roughly 77 million dollars to its members.
Gambler's Chief David LeDoux is aiming to use one million dollars of that to fund the search for murdered and missing indigenous women.
The John James Tanner Legacy Foundation will be the name of Chief LeDoux's new project, and in a press release, he's proud to have lots of support in setting this up.
“This is an important new response to the growing need for assistance among the families affected by the disappearance or murder of our relatives across Canada,” stated Chief Ledoux. “I am pleased to be joined by Grand Chief Daniels, and other leaders, as we take the initiative in providing the necessary support, particularly for the children affected by the numerous tragedies involving our peoples.”
Grand Chief Daniels will serve as Treasurer for the new foundation. He will be joined by Grand Chief Cathy Merrick from the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC), Assembly of First Nations Manitoba Regional Chief Cindy Woodhouse, Ray Anne Gray, and Kellie LeDoux. The newly assembled Board of Directors will oversee the foundation's establishment and operations.
Another donation will be made towards this project from a local potash mine PADCOM, which is a partner with Chief LeDoux, and the Gambler First Nation.
It will match the Chief's generous donation, making a total of 2 million dollars for the new Legacy Foundation.
The Land Claim Payments are being handed out today, and the announcement for the John James Tanner Legacy Foundation will happen between 3 and 5 pm today with Premier Wab Kinew in attendance.

Dauphin will once again play host to Remembrance Day ceremonies on Saturday.
The ceremony at Credit Union Place will start at 10:45 am, with things moving to the Cenotaph at 12 noon.
Norma Johnson with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch number 20 in Dauphin encourages you to arrive early for the ceremony at Credit Union Place.
"We encourage people to come and be seated by 10:30. There usually is plenty of seating but we have been getting a very good turnout of people of all ages, which is very nice."
Johnson encourages everyone to come out and participate,.
"It is a time for us to stop and remember all that have served, and especially the people that have made the ultimate sacrifice to allow us to live in a free country. I do not think we appreciate the freedom that we have."
Ceremonies are also being held in several other Parkland communities.

The manager of the Dauphin Co-op Main Street Gas Bar has received some national recognition.
Canada Convenience Store News has named Kelly Moroz one of its 2023 Future Leaders in Convenience and Car Wash.
The awards are presented to individuals under the age of 40 who demonstrate a commitment to a career in convenience/gas/car wash stations and show leadership, innovation, and initiative in their daily work.
Moroz became manager of the Main Street Co-op Gas Bar at the age of 24.
In 2021, she was awarded a Women in Leadership award.
