Beekeepers in Manitoba are feeling optimistic about seeing more honey production this year, according to the president of the Manitoba Beekeepers' Association.
Allan Campbell says the weather plays a huge factor in the honey making process, and this winter wasn't as difficult as the past few.
"The crops is probably as much of a deal breaker for us as anything. If there's a hard year for canola growth for example, we're gonna produce a lot less honey no matter what conditions the bees are in."
Campbell says they're hopeful to reclaim losses the industry has dealt with over the last few years, and in some cases, make some increases.
He says having more bees around should lead to more honey production this year, assuming the weather cooperates.
