Letting local communities decide their fate on the sale of pot is part of the provincial government’s marijuana plan. Local MLA Brad Michaleski believes the province is taking the right approach in legalizing the drug.
“The approach that the municipalities are going to have an opportunity to say ‘no’ and not want it, I think that is the right approach rather than the province saying that you must. I respect that some community may not want that and if we give them the decision, they know best what works for them.”
Many municipalities in the Parkland are holding off on making a decision until they are presented with more details regarding the provincial legislation.
