The Canadian Federation of Agriculture wants to see a quick resolution to the Country of Origin Labeling Dispute.

President Ron Bonnett says he doesn't support the use of retaliatory tariffs against the U-S because it would undermine the trading agreements already made between Canada and the Americans.

"I think what's critical with those trade agreements is that there has to be an acknowledgement and a willingness of the countries who signed the agreement to live within the terms of the agreement. Signing a trade agreement and then ignoring any rulings and have it break down into countries erecting tariffs barriers in the form of tariffs almost defeats the whole idea of having a free trade agreement in place."

Bonnett says the elimination of COOL would put Canadian products on equal footing with American products, and will lead to more money being made by Canadian farmers for exported cattle.
