A new contender has entered the Conservative leadership race, but Dauphin's MP isn't changing his allegiance.

Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa MP Robert Sopuck says he's been very public in his support for Erin O'Toole, who he says checks off all the boxes.

"His experience, his intelligence, his military background, he's lived in the mairtimes -- he's lived in Winnipeg actually when he was part of the military -- he represents a riding outside of Toronto that's both a rural and urban mix, plus he's bilingual and a former minister so for all those reasons I'm very strongly supporting Erin O'Toole."

Kevin O'Leary officially entered the race yesterday, after a French-language debate in Quebec.

Sopuck calls him an unconventional candidate. He says O'Leary has some strengths in the business world and will bring a fresh voice to the campaign, but he is concerned about his lack of political experience.
