After a three-month hiatus, Canada's federal politicians have returned to Parliament.

The Fall session of Parliament began yesterday, with regional negotiations being raised.

MP for Dauphin - Swan River - Neepawa, Robert Sopuck says fisheries were a major talking point at the local level.

"We have the issue of the Fresh Water Fish Marketing Corporation of course a decision I support, by the way the Manitoba Government has granted marketing freedom for our commercial fishermen so that is a good thing... the other fisheries related issue that will affect almost all of our communities, the Liberal government has decided to review the Fisheries Act."

Sopuck added, the animal rights bill known as Bill C-246 will be up for debate next week for second reading. He claims to take the charge against that bill stressing the negative impacts it will have on rural communities.

Other major talking points during the session at the federal level were changes to Canada's electoral system and peacekeeping missions in Africa.
