An Entomologist with Manitoba Agriculture is encouraging farmers and agronomists to clean out their equipment that's used to move grain before Harvesting starts.

John Gavloski says getting rid of last years grain in the equipment will limit the amount of stored grain insects.

"Usually what happens is you have these small populations established in grain that has been sitting in say a truck or a auger or something for an extended period of time. They would be loaded into the bin with the new grain and that's how populations can get started."

Gavloski says the insect to look out for currently are Lygus bugs in canola and sunflowers.
