It turned out to be the most beneficial acquisition at the 2022 trade deadline back in January. After four years with the Portage Terriers, Doug Hedley made a splash as he acquired 21-year-old forward Logan Calder from the Terriers in exchange for Hayden Lacquette and Slade Stanick.

Calder would go on to achieve great things with the Kings, helping the team win the Turnbull Cup. In game seven against Steinbach at the T.G Smith Centre, he tied the game up and then he set up Brayden Dube with less than eight minutes left in the game as Dauphin won a thriller. Then Calder would go on to help the team advance to the semifinals at the Centennial Cup.

He scored twice in Estevan and also chalked up two assists in five games played. In all with Dauphin, he played 45 games for the club and recorded 40 points. A leader on and off the ice, Calder brought his A game to the ice every single time he hit the ice and was very hard to handle. It wasn't an overly long tenure in Dauphin for Logan but it was a memorable one.

"It was a great time, the boys and coaches welcomed me very quickly," said Calder. "We all connected and it was a pretty special time. We didn't win the national title but to make it to the final four, that's huge. I couldn't have asked for more during my time in Dauphin."

Now Logan's junior career is in the rearview mirror and it has driven away but his hockey days haven't. The Kings announced recently that he has committed to play with the Salve Regina University. It's a private university in Newport, Rhode Island and they play in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Logan is set to join former Kings Braeden Young and Levi Mitchell. The three never played together; however, they have played against each other while in the MJHL. The team flew Logan out shortly after the nationals and everything they had to offer was too great to pass up.

"It's not a very big school so it's tight-knit which is nice," said Calder.

The club went 16-8-2 last season and they begin their season in early November. That means Logan still has a few months to get ready for his freshman season.

"I'm really excited, it has always been my goal to go and play college at the next level," ended Calder. "So it's a dream come true and I can't wait to get going with my new team."
