The baseball community in the Parkland region lost a legend earlier this year when Victor Fron passed away.

Fron, a mainstay in the baseball community for so many years left so many great impressions on anyone he met. Dauphin Minor Baseball Association has decided to take action and they're going to remember Victor for all he did over the years.

Beginning at 6:00 p.m. on diamond E at the Vermillion Sportsplex, there will be speeches and a ceremonial opening pitch before the 15U and 18U teams play an intrasquad game. This event is open to the public; however, social distancing guidelines will be in effect.

"We didn't feel that it was right to wait until next season to do something to honour Fron and all he's done for baseball in this area," said Jodie Romanow. "I don't think he really realized how much he helped our organization and all of the other organizations in the Parkland. He was such a great person and he was so reliable."

Romanow says Victor will be very much missed moving forward.

On top of his involvement with Dauphin Minor, Fron was also heavily involved with the Dauphin Fire Department.

He joined the DFD in October of 1979 when he was just 23-years-old. 21 years after he joined the force in November of 2000, Fron was presented with the Fire Fighter of the Year award which is voted on by his peers for going above and beyond the call of duty.

In 2007, Fron was named the Fire Chief, a title he held for four years before he retired in February of 2011 due to personal reasons. Fron also spent many years with the Dauphin Ambulance Service. His dedication to front line services lasted more than 31 years.

A true Parkland legend will be remembered on Wednesday.
