Grant Wilson has coached the Brandon University Bobcats men's volleyball team since the team's inception in 2005. He started as an Assistant Coach and for the past seven years, he's been the Head Coach.

He's been a part of some very successful teams in past, but no more so than this year's Bobcats. The team wrapped up their regular season last weekend by sweeping MacEwan on back to back nights. The two wins extended Brandon's winning streak to 16 games to end the season.

The last time Brandon lost a conference game was way back on November 10. 13 of Brandon's 16 straight wins have come in straight sets. That includes nine straight after suffering that loss on November 10. Brandon also remains as the top team in all of Canada.

"Things went pretty well for us in the second half for sure," said Wilson. "We were able to maintain a pretty consistent level. Regardless of a tough travel schedule at times, we were able to find our legs and get it done. We've put ourselves in a pretty good situation, now hopefully we can make good of it."

The 22 games in the past are just that, in the past. Now it's playoff time and the Bobcats will have home court advantage for as long as they stay alive. The team's first-round opponent is the Calgary Dinos, a team they've had success against in the past. Back on November 16 and 17, Brandon swept the Dinos on back to back nights. Elliot Viles was the star of the weekend with 29 kills on 38 attempts.

Calgary finished 10-12 on the season and was three games ahead of the ninth-place Winnipeg team.

"Anyone that makes the playoffs has a legitimate chance of winning in the playoffs," said Wilson. "We've been in the eight spot before and won that first round. We know that nothing is given just because we finished on top. We need to keep playing how we have been."

"We played Calgary before Christmas and now they have a little bit of a different lineup," he added. "They have some really big guys who can take over a game so we have to solidify our net presence. If we do that, we should be fine."

This is no doubt one of Brandon's if not best ever season. Since the 2011-12 season, the Bobcats most wins in any season was 17. The team will be joined by several powerhouses in the playoffs including Trinity Western who is ranked second nationally. Also, Alberta who are favourites and Mount Royal who swept Brandon earlier this season.

"Guys are feeling pretty loose right now, we've just tried to maintain a consistent focus all year," said Wilson. "We need to just take this game tonight as another game and go from there. If we continue to stay loose and not worry about what's going on around us that will be beneficial for our group."
