The Neepawa RCMP are searching for two suspects after they tried to steal hundreds of dollars' worth of groceries at Safeway in Neepawa.

On July 30, an adult male and female loaded up a cart with $560 worth of groceries. Before they could leave the store with the groceries, the staff confronted them and took the cart. However, the suspects were able to flee the store before the RCMP arrived.

If you can identify the suspects, call the Neepawa RCMP at 476-7340.

Thankfully, only minor injuries were sustained after the Winnipegosis Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday.

At about 1:10 p.m., crews were on the scene of the crash on George Street in Winnipegosis. The vehicle's crash detection was enabled, which notified 911. When crews arrived, one occupant was out of their vehicle and was treated.

The occupant in the other vehicle was also outside their vehicle and was treated on the scene.

On Friday, August 25, 2023, Lyndon McIvor told his mom he was going out and said, "I will see you later, I love you".

Lyndon didn't return home and wasn't answering his phone. On Sunday, August 27, his family was told where he was dropped off. The search for Lyndon began.

Two years later, the search for answers and closure continues.

"My son was 25 when he went missing and was found murdered. It's very sad," said Cheryl Maytwayashing. "He was outgoing. He loved hockey, baseball, and sports. He was proud of his babies; he took care of them."

Lyndon's body was found five days later in a wooded area on the Lake Manitoba First Nation. Two years later, the RCMP are confident that the persons responsible for Lyndon's death remain in the community.

"Like it happened in our community, and that makes it harder," continued Maytwayashing. "Because everyone knows each other. And when something happens, it affects all of us."

Cheryl says it continues to affect many people on the First Nation. She's scared that those responsible could do it to another family. She's hoping someone will tell what happened that night and why.

"People do know. My sons' ashes are still in the house," ended Maytwayashing. "I won't bury him until I know. Some nights, I don't sleep. My grandsons won't get their dad back. My sons won't have their brother. We need answers to what happened. I need to know."

RCMP originally charged Barry Leslie Swan with second-degree murder in September 2023. That charge was stayed in Ashern court on September 11, 2024. Prosecutors stated that there was a low likelihood of conviction against him.

If you have any information that could help, call the Manitoba RCMP tip line at 431-489-8110.

Organizers are looking forward to a little bit of a breather after a great weekend at the grounds.

The Ashern Rodeo has come and gone for another year. It started with the always-popular street dance on Friday night along Main Street. Friday ended with a fabulous fireworks show. Saturday started with a delicious pancake breakfast at the Centennial Hall, which paved the way for a market, an 11:00 a.m. parade, and the rodeo took centre stage at 4:00 p.m.

There was also a highly attended social on Saturday night.

Rachel Postlethwaite is the president of the Ashern Rodeo.

"It was an awesome weekend. The weather was fantastic, it was great beer-drinking weather," she said. "A ton of people came out. We had about 550 to 600 come out on Saturday. It was impressive. We are very happy with how the weekend went."

Postlethwaite says this year's rodeo will go down as one of the best-attended ones yet. Sunday morning started with Cowboy Church before the rodeo wrapped up the weekend at 4:00 p.m. Rachel says the adults had a blast doing their thing, and the kids were all smiles.

"We had a ton of kids' entertainment. Bouncy castles, pony rides. It's always nice to see families come down, and it means the world to see the kids smiling and running around," ended Postlethwaite. "There was some great food. Hot dogs and hamburgers, taco in the bag, our mini donuts are always a classic for us."

There was something for everyone, and that's why the Ashern Rodeo is circled on so many people's calendars every year.

The organizing committee will meet in the next couple of weeks. Then, preparation for the 2026 Ashern Rodeo will begin.

Tickets go on sale today (Tuesday) for Theatre Amisk's next production.

"Dauphin Apocalypse: Good to the Last Bite" is written and directed by Peter Nadolny.

"I have always been a ban of the zombie genre and always wanted to write a play about it.  And being here in Dauphin gave me that opportunity."

Nadolny says the cast has been busy rehearsing since May, and is excited to bring this play to life.

"We have a wonderful cast, and a surprise cast member as well.  And it is going to be a lot of spooky fun!"

The play will run October 23 -26 at the Watson Arts Centre.

Tickets are $25 each and are available at the Watson.

On Tuesday, community members can voice their concerns. The community will be hosting a town hall meeting at 4:00 p.m.

It's open to all Ebb & Flow community members. Voice your opinions, concerns, and any questions you may have in a safe and open environment. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

It's an event geared towards all sports and community groups in Dauphin and the area.

The annual Rec, Health, and Leisure Mart is on Tuesday evening at the Curling Rink inside the Parkland Rec Complex. It'll take place from 5:00 to 7:00.

Tamara Kolida is the programs and promotions coordinator with Dauphin Rec. She says this event is ideal for those who are new to town.

"We have everything from karate, dance, and hockey, to highland dance," said Kolida. "Dauphin Girl Guides is attending, Dauphin Community Bands, which has never attended, so that's exciting."

South Parkland Healthy Child Coalition will also be in attendance.

"If you have young children aged six and under, this is a group that you want to check out," added Kolida. "They offer a lot of free programs in the fall and winter for children and their caregivers."

There is no cost to attend. All you have to do is show up. Then you never know how many groups you may sign up for.

Whether you're looking for something to do or for your children, Dauphin Rec Services, Rec, Health, and Leisure Mart has what you need to stay involved in the community.

"It's set up like an expo. Every group in attendance will have a table and booth set up," ended Kolida. "You walk around and see what they have to offer. Many groups offer registration that night, so that's something to be prepared for."

A fire in Swan River is under investigation by the RCMP and the Office of the Fire Commissioner.

On Saturday, shortly after 7:00 p.m., the Swan Valley Fire Department responded to a structure fire on 4th Avenue West. Black smoke was coming out of the front window.

Once crews were able to enter, they located the fire in one of the bedrooms. They cut holes in the ceiling and in an adjacent room to ensure the fire wouldn't extend or cause other issues.

No one was in the home at the time of the blaze. Crews were on scene for a little more than three hours before returning to the station.

Have you yet to take in the beauty at Riding Mountain National Park?

Whether that includes going for a lunch at Wasagaming, or a hike on one of the dozens of trails, or just taking a drive with the hopes of seeing some wildlife, RMNP is a beautiful place, and for one more day, you can visit for free.

Earlier this year, Parks Canada implemented the 'Canada Strong Pass'. The pass allows all Canadians free entry to all national parks, as well as discounts on camping.

Free entry ends on Tuesday, September 2. So that means on Labour Day Monday, there's one more chance to take in the beauty right in our backyard at Riding Mountain National Park for free.

Below is a look at the hours for some businesses in Dauphin on Labour Day.
