Thursday will mark the first day for Dauphin's new mayor and city council.

And the outgoing mayor has some advice for the people taking on the job.

David Bosiak says they worked hard in building a positive relationship with the provincial government, and in particular with senior members of cabinet.

He hopes the new Dauphin city council will continue to work on strengthening that relationship.

"I think that if we had not created the relationships, the challenges of getting in front of a senior minister - it is a big challenge.  I saw that before I became mayor in my years of working for the provincial government.  When organizations or communities wanted to get their issues on the table, often times if you didn't have those relationships, you had to go through a number of layers of bureaucracy before you can actually talk to the  people who can make those decisions."

When elected as mayor in 2022, Bosiak pledged to serve just one term as the city's mayor.

He says one of his fondest memories will be the great working relationship that he had with city council and senior staff.
