This Thanksgiving long weekend, Manitoba RCMP are conducting Operation Impact, focusing on four key things to help keep Manitoba drivers safe on the roads.
Staff Sergeant Jon Greer with the Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services went over the details.
"This weekend were are focusing on Operation Impact, that is speeding, seatbelt use, distracted driving, and certainly impaired driving, those are the four major things that we'll be looking for," said S/Sgt. Greer.
Impaired driving is a big one - there's almost always a small spike in impaired driving incidents around holidays. S/Sgt. Greer said no matter how much you drink, and especially if you don't think it affects you as much as others - don't take the keys.
"One glass of wine, one beer, one ounce of alcohol, like a hard liquor, all have the same amount of alcohol in them, and even when someone feels like they may be capable of driving, safely operating a car, their blood alcohol concentration may be above the legal limit," said S/Sgt. Greer.
When you're out and about this weekend, make sure to watch your speed, buckle up - and steer clear of drinking.
