The Provincial Government is looking to introduce a bill to amend the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act to help make the workplace safer for cannabis store employees.
Bill 56's first two amendments outline the plan to remove the requirement for cannabis store to have storefront window coverings. The Province says the change will increase visibility from outside the store, and make sure workers aren't hidden from public view.
The Bill would also give the Province power to set mandatory staffing minimums during specific hours where there might be a higher risk of violence, to make sure workers aren't alone in unsafe environments.
The introduction of this Bill comes after discussions between the Province and United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 832, about previous violent incidents involving cannabis stores.
