In July, Classify Security Group started safety patrols in downtown Dauphin, as part of the City's new Downtown Safety Patrol Pilot Program, designed to find ways to make downtown feel safer for residents.
In a Facebook post, the City of Dauphin announced Classify Security Group will no longer be involved with program. For the rest of the pilot project, expected to end in January of next year, Persons Community Solutions will be the contractor.
For the early stages of the program, they'll conduct patrols between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Tuesday to Saturday, in the downtown area, and nearby parks and public spaces. Members of the Persons Community Solutions team are trained in mental health support, de-escalation, first aid, naloxone administration, and harm reduction.
The Downtown Safety Patrol Pilot Program is supported by a $200,000 grant from the Province through it's Safer Neighbourhoods, Safer Downtowns Public Safety Strategy, and after conversations with other Manitoba Municipalities about ways they've made their downtowns safer.
In the announcement, the City did not say why Classify Security Group is no longer involved in the program.
