This week's Manitoba Agriculture Crop Report highlights hot temperatures in the Northwest region that have allowed crops to significantly advance.
Because of hot temperatures, soil crusting continues as soils continue to dry. Infrastructure and field repair continue across the region. Field access is still a challenge in some areas with washouts, but many roads across the region are passable again.
Fungicide and herbicide applications near completion, though some later seeded fields may require applications once necessary stages are reached.
The Northwest region's crops are advancing well: fall rye and winter wheat are in the hard dough stage, and looking mostly good. Stages range in spring cereals, with most advanced crops in the late milk/early soft dough stage. Some later seeded fields continue to catch up.
Field peas moved toward the R5 stage thanks to recent high temperatures, with most advanced fields approaching R6 stage. Canola fields still range in stages, with most crops nearing completion of flowering. Later seeded fields and fields under excess moisture are catching up. The most advanced soybean crops in the region have moved to R3 stage, with the remainder of the crop following behind.
