Assiniboine College is expanding adult learning.
Thanks to a $367,000 investment from the Province of Manitoba, the college's Adult Learning Centre will now run in Minnedosa and Neepawa.
The new Centre for Adult Learning in Neepawa is at the Neepawa Training Centre (239 Mill Street). In Minnedosa, the college will take over operations of the adult education site at Minnedosa Collegiate (74 Armitage Avenue).

"It's very fulfilling and exciting to know the government is following through and has eyes on adult learning and the importance of it through increased funding," said O'Gilvie.
Assiniboine’s Centre for Adult Learning is a supportive and inclusive environment dedicated to helping adult learners achieve their educational goals.
The centre’s programs are designed to accommodate busy schedules and diverse learning styles, and it offers various class times and online learning options. Learners must be 19 years of age or older or have been out of high school for six months or longer.
Adult learning centres provide opportunity for students to obtain their Grade 12 diploma, upgrade their existing high school grades, take additional high school courses to meet admission requirements for postsecondary or to support future employment.
Class times are very flexible.
"We have schedules from 8:30 to 4:30," added O'Gilvie. "We also have evening classes for those who have to work during the day. Our evening classes run from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m., usually from Monday to Thursday."
There are also remote options for those who require. Assiniboine is hosting information sessions for those interested in learning more about the learning opportunities through the adult learning centre.
The first one is virtual on Wednesday, August 12 at 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. There is another session on Thursday, August 13 at 6:00 p.m. in Minnedosa. Neepawa will hold an information session on Tuesday, August 18 at 6:00 p.m.

Assiniboine College has a longstanding history in providing opportunities for adult learners. It's important to them that students feel supported and empowered to pursue their education and employment goals.
Assiniboine College has well-trained and versed student success advisors who help students along in setting their goals and timetable. They also have educational assistants and other wrap around services to ensure students are successful.
"We've been known to deliver good services," said O'Gilvie. "We've been in communities for a very long time. We are looking forward to continuing to offer those services as we support economic development and adults with their goals."

Assiniboine College now has centres for adult learning in Brandon, Dauphin, Minnedosa, and Neepawa and regularly delivers adult learning in community-based sites across the province, with programs this past year in the Ebb and Flow First Nation, O-ChiChak-Ko-Sipi First Nation, and Tootinaowaziibeeng Treaty Reserve.
