Around 2:00 PM on Wednesday, Manitoba's Emergency Management Organization issued an emergency alert to inform Manitobans that most of the Province's 911 services were unavailable.
Elise von Scheel, Senior Media Relations Manager with Bell MTS, said the outage was caused when a fibre cable was cut by a third-party doing construction, which affected Brandon's Public Safety Answering Point. Backup services functioned as intended. Full emergency call serrvice was brought back online around 3:20 PM.
"Backup systems were brought online throughout the afternoon to route calls to emergency services while technicians addressed the outage," said von Scheel.
The Brandon Public Safety Answering Point also had their own backups, which allowed them to track and callback 911 callers. Bell MTS thanks Manitobans for their patience while they worked to fix the damaged infrastructure.
