RCMP in Swan River are reminding motorists about the dangers of not slowing down when passing Emergency vehicles that are parked on the side of the road.
Under the Highway Traffic Act, motorists must slow down and move fully to the other lane when any emergency services vehicle is pulled over to the side of the road, and have their emergency lights activated.
Doing so gives the emergency responders the space that they need to perform their jobs safely.
An 18-year-old from the RM of Swan Valley West learned that lesson the hard way this past Wednesday..
He was driving an SUV on Highway 10 in the RM of Minitonas-Bowsman when he failed to slow down or move into the other lane when passing an RCMP vehicle that was stopped on the side of the road for a traffic stop.
Faling to do so netted the young driver a ticket worth $298.
