The AgriStability program was an important topic during a recent virtual meeting of the country's federal, provincial, and territorial agriculture ministers.
The ministers reiterated their commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of business risk management programs, given the uncertain trade environment and unfavourable climate conditions in parts of the country.
Dauphin MLA and Manitoba Ag Minister Ron Kostyshyn says the ministers agreed to take the necessary steps to implement a package of enhancements to the AgriStability program.
"Manitoba was the first province to move forward with the support towards the 80 to 90 per cent in the maximum payment limit, and also increasing the 3 million to 6 million. A the end of the day, in that lengthy discussion that we had, we fully support the proposal moving forward."
In addition, starting in the 2026 AgriStability program year, provinces and territories will have the option to use a new inventory valuation method for inventories destined to be used on-farm.
