It was a golden weekend for the Dauphin Novice Fire as they were in Neepawa for their final tournament of the season, and they came back to Dauphin with a Championship.
Forrest Karlson led the Fire in their first game with five goals en route to a 12-2 win against the Rivers Oakden Jets.
The Fire hit the ice in their second game against the Neepawa Natives, and it was pure domination for the team as they won 23-1, and Brandon Wood was named the Player of the Game.
In the final, the Fire scored two third-period goals to beat the Rivers Lepp Jets, 5-4. Jordan Height was named the Player of the Game.

The Dauphin Clippers are moving onto the semifinals after the team beat Deloraine for the second straight day, this time 2-1 on Sunday night at Credit Union Place.
The Colts opened up the scoring 17:16 into the first to lead 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Hunter Glover tied the game up for the Clippers just 1:20 into the second, and Brandon Racette put the Clippers up 2-1, 17:48 into the second to put the Clippers up after 40.
The Colts pressured in the third, but the Clippers locked down defensively when they needed too, and Bode Childs made some clutch saves to pick up the win.
The Clippers will now battle with Killarney in the second round of the playoffs, with the series beginning March 1 at 7:30 at Credit Union Place.

Urban Bowman, who formerly coached the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, has passed away.
Bowman joined the Bombers in 1985 as the team's defensive line and special teams coach. After leaving the team after that season, Bowman returned back to Winnipeg in 1991.
In 1992 he was named the Bombers' Interim Head Coach when Cal Murphy underwent surgery, and he led the Bombers to the Grey Cup that season, but they fell to the Calgary Stampeders.
When Murphy returned in 1993, Bowman switched back to his former defensive line and special teams coach position, and then in 1995, he joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as an Assistant Head Coach.
After a battle with prostate cancer, Bowman came back to the CFL in the early 2000's and coached with the Toronto Argonauts and Bombers before being inducted into the Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.

The Grand Plains Atom Ice Dogs are off to the Championship series after they beat the Brandon Purple Panthers 2-1 in the best-of-three series.
In the first game, the Ice Dogs came back from a 4-0 deficit but ended up falling 5-4. With their season on the line in game two, the Ice Dogs did what they had to do in double-overtime by beating the Purple Panthers, 3-2.
The Ice Dogs used the momentum they built in game two towards game three and ended up thumping Brandon, 9-2 to win the series.
The Championship series will now feature the Ice Dogs and the Neepawa Nite Hawks.

Gilbert Plains' Butch Mouck and his curling team, and Dauphin's Ray Baker and his curling team were in Winnipeg for the Senior Men's Provincial Championships this weekend, and both fell short of advancing to the playoffs.
Mouck went 5-2 in the round robin which pushed him into a tiebreaker, but the foursome narrowly lost to last year's Champion Murray Warren from Brandon, 5-4.
Baker went 2-5 in the round robin.
The playoffs for the Championships go tomorrow.

The Bantam Parkland Rangers capped off their season with a bang, as they won the Bronze Medal at the Rural Provincial Championships that were played in Wawanesa and Killarney this weekend.
After falling in the semifinal this morning to Southwest, the Rangers were set up for a rematch with the rival Yellowhead Chiefs and, for the second time in the tournament, the Rangers got the best of the Chiefs, 3-2.
Tyson Zimmer once again was the leader for the Rangers scoring two goals. Russell's Josh Thompson played hero for the Rangers, as he scored the game-winning goal with Zimmer notching the only assist on the marker.

The Bantam Grand Plains Ice Dogs can call themselves Provincial Finalists, after they dropped a heartbreaker against Souris earlier today in Reston, 6-5 in the finals.
The Ice Dogs came into the game undefeated and scored 28 goals while giving up none in three games before the final.
In the final, both the Ice Dogs and Souris battled back and forth, and it appeared the game was heading into overtime, but Souris scored with just 10 seconds left in the game to win the A/B Provincial Championships.
Ameron Laliberty picked up two goals and one assist for the Ice Dogs, while Allee Hrechka, Brittan Yaschyshyn, and Riley Turetsky all scored singles.
Several ladies from the Ice Dogs will be back on the ice next weekend as the Bantam Parkland Rangers play in the Rural Provincial Championships.

The Midget Parkland Rangers scored first, but the Southwest Cougars provided plenty of offence as they beat the Rangers, 5-2.
Vincent Hughes scored for the Rangers to put them up 1-0, but Southwest tied it up as the teams headed into the dressing room tied at one.
In the second, Kurtis Luke scored on a breakaway, but the Cougars scored three goals to lead, 4-2 after 40.
Southwest added one in the third to pick up two points.

The Dauphin AA Peewee Kings had a slow start and dug themselves in a hole, but they battled back and ended up beating Shoal Lake, 8-7 in a thriller in the Championship Final of the Aspen Insurance Peewee Tournament at Credit Union Place earlier today.
The Kings entered the third period down 5-3, before scoring five goals in the third.
Kyan Grouette stole the show for the Kings, scoring six times including the game-winner with just 1:33 left in the game.
Logan Chapman was also one of the Kings leaders with two goals and two assists, while Madden Murray chalked up three assists.

Dauphin Clippers playoff hockey is back at Credit Union Place, and a spot in the next round is on the line when the puck drops tonight between the Clippers and Deloraine Colts.
The Colts came into Credit Union Place two days ago and played a great defensive game, and capitalized offensively in taking a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-three.
Dauphin responded yesterday in Deloraine as Wade Kopytko and Riley Hammond scored second-period goals as the Clippers evened-up the series at one heading into tonight's third and deciding game.
Game time is set for 8:30 at Credit Union Place, and a good crowd is expected to fill the stands.

The Bantam Grand Plains Women's Ice Dogs have been absolutely dominant all weekend long at the Rural A/B Provincials in Reston, and now the team is just one win away from being the Rural Provincial Champions.
The team won the semifinals this morning against Morden, 6-0.
Six different Ice Dogs scored in the game, including Ameron Laliberty. Allee Hretchka, Brittan Yaschyshyn, Levi Derkatch, and Taelor Loewen also added singles in the win.
The Gold Medal game is set for later today at 5:00 p.m.
