Eggs are an important part of any balanced breakfast, and today is a day to commemorate the people who farm them!

World Egg Day highlights not only this staple of almost every culture's cuisine, but also the hard-working individuals that raise hens, and keep the global supply of eggs moving.

Harold Froese is the Vice-chair of Manitoba Egg Farmers, and he's spending his weekend educating people on his farming passion.

"Together with some of my colleagues, I'm spending most of my day tomorrow at the University of Manitoba for World Egg Day interacting with students. We do events like this to promote eggs. we're setting up a display in the university center, and then we'll hand out some freebees and interact with students at the walk-by."

Manitoba Egg Farmers are big on educating people about their work, and how important egg farming is for food security moving forward.

As part of this, Manitoba Egg Farmers has supported Agriculture in the classroom with a 3-year funding commitment.

Froese loves working with this group and has done several facility tours for schools to show how things work.

"We try to be pretty active throughout the year. One of the things we're really excited about in terms of tours is the Bruce Campbell Food and Discovery Center at Glenlea just south of Winnipeg we just had an open house for a brand new, state-of-the-art facility."

Froese notes that one of his favorite things about eggs is the variety of ways that can be prepared, but as everyone does, he's got a favorite recipe.

"Probably my favorite is eggs benedict with a pot of coffee on the side. I think that's just excellent"
