Calista Hudyma was an integral part of the Dauphin Clippers junior varsity girls' basketball team's success this past season.

The team won three tournaments prior to the zone championships in Portage, Vincent Massey, and they also won their home tournament. Hudyma also helped Dauphin win the zone championships. In other action, they placed third in Neepawa and won the consolation title at the Clippers varsity tournament.

In all, the team lost just two games while they won 18. Before the season was cut short because the novel coronavirus, Hudyma, and the team beat Springfield, 76-35, in the first game of the provincials.

"We had such a fantastic season. We had such a good start to the provincials, it was just disappointing that it had to end before we finished what we started," said Hudyma. "I loved being a part of the team, it truly felt like a family. We also achieved the goals we set out at the start of the season and that was incredible. It was just a great season and I'll never forget it, on and off the court."

As Calista now moves up to grade 11 and the varsity team in the fall, she's doing so with some extra hardware added to her trophy case. Calista was named the junior varsity female athlete of the year thanks to all of her contributions. On top of that, Hudyma was named the basketball team's most valuable player. 

"I'm very proud of myself and I was honestly surprised, I wasn't expecting to win either," ended Hudyma. "It's truly an honour and I'm looking forward to getting back at it in the fall."
