After playing 245 games in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and five games in the Western Hockey League, former Dauphin King Riley Shamray is ready for his next step.

Shamray has committed to play for the Mount Royal University Cougars men's hockey team. They compete in the Canada West Conference (USports).

They went 12-11-5 in the regular season last year and advanced to the league semi-finals before being defeated by Saskatchewan.

"I love Calgary and Mount Royal is right there," said Shamray. 

Bert Gilling is the Cougars Head Coach and Shamray is looking forward to playing for him.

"He seems like a good guy, he's intense and it seems like he really cares a lot," added Shamray. "Mount Royal has a really good hockey program. I'm looking forward to it being a good fit."

Riley suited up in 150 regular season games with Dauphin and four playoff games this past season. During that time, Shamray had 92 points (23G). He also led the Kings' with 47 points this past season in the regular season and his four playoff points were second best on the team.

"I have a lot of memories from Dauphin. Although we didn't win too much, I had a lot of fun," commented Shamray. "It was a great group of guys, I had great billets and the community was great."

Riley will now use the next couple of months to prepare for the fall when he'll make his debut for Mount Royal in September.
