DRCSS band teacher Taylor Schmidt says work on this fundraising concert really started last year.

"A group of Brandon University faculty members and students came up to the high school and worked with some of our students throughout the day at a workshop and we kinda threw a little impromptu concert that evening just in the MPR. It was a lot of fun and the kids liked it. So this year, the Brandon University faculty members said hey we'd love to come back up, and so we were talking with the band parents about why don't we showcase these guys on a bigger stage with the WAC and use it as a fundraiser."

Schmidt says he’s hoping a strong turnout for the concert will lead to more performing opportunities for local talent, similar to what he had when he was a band student at the DRCSS.

"I know in the past when I grew up here in Dauphin, here at the high school we used to have what was called a "Big Band Dance Night". They'd bring a group up and it was an evening for the parents to hang out, and I'm hoping that maybe if we get a good turnout that some of the people remember that and maybe that can jump start bringing that back as well."

Friday’s concert at the Watson Art Centre starts at 7:00pm and tickets can be purchased at the door for $16
