A 25-year- old has been charged after setting a home on fire in the RM of Grandview.

On Sunday, April 7th the Dauphin RCMP received a report of a house fire located off of Hwy 5 on Road 135.

The homeowner told police she was lying in her bed when she noticed fire from the corner of the house.

She went outside and put out a small fire. She then found another small fire on a bench next to the house. She then put that one out.

While she was outside, she noticed a male standing a short distance away looking at her home and recognized him.

RCMP says the suspect is then believed to have stolen the victims’ vehicle that was parked in the driveway to flee the area.

She returned inside her home and found her bedroom was on fire and was not able to extinguish it, so she exited the home and ran to her brother's house to contact 911.

The vehicle was found on Tuesday.

Cody Orlyn Von Bargen, from the RM of Gilbert Plains, was arrested and remanded into custody on charges of Arson and Theft of a Vehicle.  He turned himself into police the following morning.

He was released on Wednesday and has been remanded to May 7th.
