What a weekend of ball it ended up being in Swan River and now two teams are Provincial Championship bound.

The Roblin Stars 13U battled, and provided fans with perhaps the best game of the tournament as they beat the Strilkiwski Contracting Peewees, 13-12.

They now advance to the "AA" Provincials in Winnipeg from July 13-15.

After Swan River beat Grandview in the semifinals, the Strilkiwski Contracting Peewees had one more chance to advance to the "A" Provincials, and did they ever.

In another great game, Dauphin came out on top against the host Royals, 8-7.

The "A" Provincials will be this upcoming weekend in Seine River/ Ile des Chenes.

The Grandview Lakers were in tough yesterday as they took on the Willowbrook Royals, and they fell short in both games.

Willowbrook took the first game, 16-1, and followed that up with a 9-1 in the backend of the double dip.

The Lakers are now 2-10-1.

Johnny Manziel watched from the sideline again as Jeremiah Masoli starred in the Hamilton Tiger-Cats' 31-17 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Masoli completed 31 of 41 passes for 369 yards and a touchdown to help the Tiger-Cats improve to 2-and-1.

Manziel hasn't taken a single C-F-L snap in his first three weeks.

The action is underway in Swan River as the 13U Parkland Regional Baseball Championships take centre stage.

Here's the weekend draw:

Cool, calm, and collected... That's what Neepawa's Hayden Delaloye was like the past couple of days at a Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour event at Bel Acres in Winnipeg.

The 12-year-old won his second ever Tour event, this time cruising to the finish line winning by eight strokes over Jack Taylor.

"It's a really good feeling to win this tournament," said Delaloye. "There are so many great competitors that force you to make good shots and be consistent. It was a lot of fun for sure."

Delaloye had a comfortable, but stressful four-shot lead heading into the final round. The 83 he fired in round one was especially impressive considering he struggled with his putter.

"I really didn't have any bad shots, and if I did, I didn't get mad at myself," he added. "After the first round, I worked on my putting on the putting green, and I made some really good putts on day two. My putting was definitely a lot better on day two, compared to day one."

"I've led in the past heading into the final round, so I knew what it felt like," said Delaloye. "Of course I was a little nervous because everything was chasing me. I just tried my best to make every shot count."

As the Manitoba Order of Merit leader in his age group, Delaloye is just two days away from clinching his spot to take part in the MJT National Golf Championship, that is played in Phoenix this year.

"I've had the chance to play in the nationals the past two years, and it was always a lot of fun," said Delaloye. "I didn't do as well as I wanted, so hopefully this year if I get my spot, I can make something good happen."

The next MJT event for Hayden is in late July at the Selkirk Golf and Country Club.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are coming off an absolute drubbing of Montreal last week, but tonight's game won't be as easy as they battle with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Last week, Chris Streveler was a beast through the air and on the ground in the win and the rookie QB has Bombers fans feeling a lot better then they were nearly a month ago when Matt Nichols was sidelined.

But, Streveler isn't the only QB that comes into tonight red-hot. You get the sense that Hamilton's Jeremiah Masoli is playing on pins and needles... because one bad performance could see Johnny "Football" Manziel take the reigns.

Fun Facts:

The Bombers had four Canadians score TD's last week. Going back to 1990, no other team has ever reached that number.

The last Bomber QB to throw three TD's in consecutive games was Kevin Glenn way back in 2005. Streveler can achieve that feat tonight with three throwing TDs.

Gametime:

If the Bombers wish to have success tonight, they'll have to stop Masoli who has thrown 300+ yards in seven straight games, and the tremendous-trio of receivers. Last year Jalen Saunders, Luke Tasker, and Brandon Banks all picked up more than 1000 yards receiving, and they're all well on their way this season as well.

The game goes at 6:00 tonight, and you can hear it all right here on 730CKDM, as we're a proud member of the Blue Bomber Radio Network.

The calendar is about to flip over to July, and that means we're one day closer to the Grand Plains Celebrity Classic, and today we reveal another "Celebrity" that'll tee it up on July 14.

Today's reveal is the Voice of the Winnipeg Jets Dennis Beyak.

Beyak who is widely known as one of the best play by play announcers in the league is very excited to play in the event.

"It's always great to come back to the area I grew up in, and I'm sure I'll see some familiar faces," said Beyak. "I'm also really looking forward to playing a course I've heard great things about, but haven't had the chance to play yet. Then you add it is for a great cause, and it's just really exciting."

During the summer, Beyak lives in Kelowna, and he knows exactly why he's coming to Gilbert.

"Part of it is Scott McCallum," he added. "When I was with the Tri-City Americans, we drafted him. To see him give back with his involvement with the Dauphin Kings and of course at the golf course."

"Anytime I can get back to the area, it's definitely special for me," he added.

Beyak, who's a frequent golfer out in Kelowna says July 14 is all about the fun and raising money for a great cause.

"If there are ticks in the area, make sure you prepare because my golf ball could go anywhere," he added. "I have some good shots, some bad shots probably just like everyone. We're going to have some fun, and that's the bottom line."

You can sign up for the Classic by calling the pro shop at 548-3030, or by heading to Grand Plains Celebrity Classic.

The Westman Junior Golf Tour took over the Clear Lake Golf Course yesterday, and a Dauphinite is a Champion.

For the first time in his young umpiring career, Dauphin's Carter Williamson will get the opportunity to umpire AAA baseball.

The 15-year-old is set to head to Portage La Prairie this weekend for the July Long Peewee AAA Classic.

"I'm really excited for the opportunity," said Williamson. "At the umpire clinic in April, they said I should come out to the tournament and umpire, so I put my name in and I was picked. It's going to be a really fun weekend."

It'll be a very busy weekend for Carter, who will ump behind the dish in four games, and be a base ump in two other games. Despite it being his first crack at umping AAA baseball, he's not feeling any pressure.

"I know I can stay cool and umpire a good game," he added. "I'm feeling no pressure at all heading in."

Heading into this weekend, Carter has a goal on where he wants to end up, and he shares it.

"A couple years from now I hope to umpire in the Manitoba Summer Games here in Dauphin, and this is just a step in the right direction," he added. "I feel really lucky that they picked me to umpire this weekend."

The Peewee age group consists of kids aged 12-13, and this is exactly the level Carter enjoys umpiring.

"I just want to keep umpiring these young aspiring ballplayers," said Williamson. "Right now, this is the most fun thing in the world for me."

The tournament gets underway tomorrow.

It's been a dream year athletically for Dauphin's Jayselyn Nybo, and she's being rewarded for it.

She was named Athlete of the Year at Mackenzie Middle School thanks to her success.

"When they said that I won, I was really excited," said Nybo. "It means so much to me, and I'm so happy I won."

"There were lots of good athletes at our school, and I got the chance to play with a lot of them," she added. "Lots of people said they thought I was going to win it, but there was definitely a few other girls who could have won it as well."

Here are some of Jayselyn's school accomplishments from the past year:

  • Volleyball - Finished 2nd in divisionals.
  • Basketball - First at divisionals.
  • Badminton - First at school, but could not attend divisionals because it conflicted with hockey.
  • Track & Field (First place in 1500M, 800M, 4x100M, and second in triple jump

The 14-year-old Dauphinite also played in every intramural event as well.

"In all of my sports I always try as hard as I can," she added. "Our basketball and volleyball teams were always really good to start, and we practiced really hard to make sure we stayed that way. In track, I gave it my all and it ended up working out, so that was a good feeling."

Outside of School:

Then on May 26, Jayselyn sketched her name into the history books with the Dean Cooley GM Peewees. The team took on Ste. Rose #2, and Nybo needed just 54 pitches to complete a no-hitter. She was so sharp that not even the entire Ste. Rose team got to hit.

NOHITTER

"That felt really good," said Nybo. "I was so nervous to pitch. When it happened, everyone was so excited and I was pretty happy."

Despite her success in just about every sport she plays in, Jayselyn's number one sport is hockey, and for good reason.

She played for the Grand Plains Ice Dogs team, and the Parkland AAA Rangers women's team, and had lots of success on the ice. With the Rangers, Nybo and the rest of the team won the Consolation Championship at the Bantam AAA Rural Provincials, and she added a big assist in the 4-3 clinching win against Yellowhead.

Her Grand Plains team advanced to the gold medal game at the Provincial Championships but narrowly fell against Elkhorn.

"It was sad at the time that we lost in the finals, but we definitely had something to be proud of," she added. "We came a long way from the start of the season."

The 14-year-old didn't only have great success athletically, however. She also wrapped up the school year by getting honours based on her success in the class as well. Was balancing school and athletics hard for the 14-year-old? Not exactly.

She just goes above and beyond to make it work.

"I usually don't really find it hard," said Nybo. "I'll do homework on the way to hockey games, and stuff like that. School is also really important to me."
