Calling this week a defining moment for the Parkland U-18 Rangers would be an understatement—it’s make-or-break time.

After a tough sweep at the hands of the Wild in Winnipeg, the Rangers remain in sixth place, but with only three games left in the regular season, they’re teetering on the playoff bubble. If they don’t find a way to collect some crucial points, their postseason dreams will slip away.

Parkland sits at 48 points, locked in a tense battle with the Pembina Valley Hawks for the final playoff spots. Hot on their heels, the Interlake Lightning (47 points, four games remaining) and Eastman Selects (47 points, two games remaining) are within striking distance, adding even more pressure to an already intense race.

The challenge is steep. First up, a road test against the powerhouse Brandon Wheat Kings, the league’s top team, on Wednesday. Then, the Rangers head to the Sun Gro Centre for a high-stakes weekend showdown against Eastman—two games that could ultimately decide their season.

It’s now or never.

It's wide open as the last week of the regular season has arrived. Four teams, one point separates them. Only two will make the playoffs and everyone in the Parkland is cheering on the Rangers.

Kyan Grouette of Dauphin will play for a Turnbull Cup.

With a 4-3 shootout win over Selkirk on Monday, the Portage Terriers clinched their berth to the Turnbull Cup playoffs, beginning the weekend of March 22.

After he was acquired by Portage from Virden at the trade deadline, the Dauphin star has two points in nine games.

Portage (35-12-0-1) is third in the East Division, four points back of the second place Pistons and five back of the league leading Winkler Flyers.

They scored four times, Cole Sheffield made some outstanding saves in the third, and the Dauphin Kings picked up a massive win over the Niverville Nighthawks on Sunday afternoon.

Matthew Haun led the way for Dauphin with two goals as Dauphin held on for a thrilling 4-3 win in front of a great crowd on a chilly day in the City of Sunshine. Sheffield finished with 27 saves as Dauphin won their past two games on home ice.

Havryil Simchuk had another incredible goal for Dauphin and a great assist to finish the game with two points. Ethan Stewart also scored for Dauphin in the victory.

Dauphin (31-13-1-1) picked up their 64th point of the season and are nine ahead of the Northern Manitoba Blizzard for first place in the MGEU West Division. They're also three ahead of Niverville for fourth place in the league.

Dauphin also inches closer to Portage in the overall standings, being five points back with a game in hand, and one more game against the Terriers. The Kings return to action on Tuesday when the Blizzard come to town, you can hear that game here on 730CKDM with Darnell Duff and Jeff Henson, beginning at 7:20, with the Parkland Source for Sports pregame show.

The Parkland U-18 Rangers kept it closer on Sunday.

However, it wasn't enough to earn any points. The Rangers were downed by the Winnipeg Wild, 2-1, at the Hockey for All Centre. The Rangers had just 16 shots while Piet Mierau was excellent for the Rangers turning away 40 shots.

Parkland went 0-for-6 on the power play and 6-for-7 on the penalty kill. With 48 points, the Rangers are in a tie for sixth with the Pembina Valley Hawks. The Interlake Lightning and Eastman Selects are tied with 47 and occupy eighth and ninth place.

Next up for the Rangers is Wednesday when they head to Brandon to play the Wheat Kings.

Ethan Myhre earned the shutout as the Dauphin Clippers won their 24th game of the season on Sunday afternoon.

Hosting the Renegades at Credit Union Place, Dauphin scored one goal in each period in a 3-0 victory. The Clippers carried the play for the majority of the game and when he needed to, Myhre was up to the challenge.

At the moment, Dauphin is five points up on Swan Valley for second place, the Tigers play Neepawa on Sunday afternoon, so depending on that result, things could change. After Sunday, Swan Valley will have four games in hand on Dauphin.

The Clippers next action is Thursday night when they head to Swan River to play the Tigers.

Jayce Legaarden of Grandview and the rest of his teammates are set to defend the Turnbull Cup.

Jayce had one goal and one assist and the Winkler Flyers exploded for six goals in a dominant 6-2 win over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Saturday night. With the win, the league-leading Flyers have booked their berth to the Turnbull Cup playoffs, one year after winning the championship in a sweep over Steinbach.

The Flyers (35-7-3-1) have a one point lead over Steinbach for first place overall with the Flyers having two games in hand. Winkler has allowed a league-low 89 goals and in fact, it's not even close. Steinbach has given up the second-fewest (121) while Dauphin, who clinched a playoff spot on Friday, has given up 121.

Legaarden is having a phenomanal season, leading the Flyers in scoring with 24 goals while collecting 53 points, to sit sixth in league scoring. Winkler clinching brings the total to three as Steinbach also clinched.

It was a battle between two of the top teams in the Westman High School Hockey League and it certainly lived up to the hype.

It was a testy battle, one that needed a shootout and in a Battle of the Parkland, it was the Swan Valley Tigers that came out on top. The Tigers beat the Dauphin Clippers, 4-3, in a shootout on Saturday night at Credit Union Place.

Boston Karlson scored once for Dauphin while Ronin Mouck added two. Jax Penner, Rylan Laderoute, and Tucker Thompson did the scoring for Swan Valley in regulation. At 23-5-0-2, the Clippers have 48 points and are in second place in the league, three points ahead of Swan Valley.

However, the Tigers (22-3) have four games in hand. These two teams will clash again on Thursday night in Swan River.

They just couldn't get anything going offensively against one of the best teams in the league.

The Parkland Rangers, now with just four games left in the regular season, lost against the Winnipeg Wild on Saturday afternoon, 6-0, at the Hockey for All Centre. The Rangers went 0-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill in the defeat.

The Rangers had just 22 shots, 13 of which were in the second. They had five in the first and were down 2-0 after 20. On top of their 13 in the second, the Rangers mustered just four in the third.

The Eastman Selects, who play the lowly Kenora Thistles on Saturday night, can jump ahead of Parkland for sixth with a victory. The Rangers are also only two points ahead of the eighth-place Pembina Valley Hawks, who are idle tonight, ahead of their game against Eastman on Sunday. Parkland still has a five-point advantage over Interlake who are ninth and out of the playoffs at this point.

Interlake plays Yellowhead on Saturday and Kenora on Sunday.

The Wild are the hottest team in the league, three points up on the Wheat Kings for first place, and they've won 18 straight games. The Rangers remain in Winnipeg for a rematch against the Thrashers on Sunday.

What a response and what a game.

After a tough loss in the semi-finals, the Dauphin Clippers rebounded and are coming home with bronze medals.

Tied at 3 after six, the Avery Scott led foursome stole a point each in the seventh and eighth to beat Oak Park, 5-3, in the bronze medal match.

The team's wonderful week included five wins and just a single loss.

Dauphin Clippers strong, what a week for Avery, Lucas Boulbria, Marlee Hadway, and Stuart Fisher.

The Dauphin Clippers have already beaten them.

If they can do it a second time, they'll be coming home with bronze medals. After falling short against Steinbach, 1-5, Avery Scott, Marlee Hadway, Lucas Boulbria, and Stuart Fisher will play for a bronze medal at the provincial championships.

Their opponent is the Oak Park Raiders. Dauphin beat the Raiders in the round-robin, 8-3, and Oak Park is coming off an 8-3 loss to Morden in their semi-final.

Check back later Saturday evening to find out how Dauphin did.

The top four high school curling teams in the province remain.

The Dauphin Clippers are among them as the foursome led by Avery Scott have advanced to the Final Four. After a perfect round-robin, Dauphin led 3-0 after two ends and never looked back in a convincing 8-3 win over Arborg.

The Clippers, which includes Scott, Stuart Fisher, Lucas Boulbria, and Marlee Hadway will now play a very good team from Steinbach in the semi-finals on Saturday afternoon.

It's Dauphin strong and the team will look to keep rolling.

Their most impressive performance of the round-robin came in their final game.

After back-to-back wins, the Dauphin Clippers finished their round-robin with a perfect game in an 8-3 win against Oak Park.

They won three straight and will now play Arborg in the quarterfinals on Saturday morning.

They've qualified for the playoff round thanks to some late drama.

Scott, Boulbria, Hadway, and Fisher were trailing 5-4 against Wawanesa after six ends. They tied it up with a single in the seventh and coming home without the hammer, the team played an incredible end and stole a point for a thrilling 6-5 win over the Warriors.

The team's game on Friday evening against Oak Park is for first place in Pool 1. Oak Park also enters the game with two straight wins.

It was a perfect start for the Dauphin Clippers curling team.

Led by Avery Scott, the Clippers downed the Kelvin Clippers, 6-4, on Thursday afternoon. Dauphin gets the rest of Thursday off before playing Wawanesa and Oak Park on Friday.

The top two teams from each pool qualify for the playoffs. Scott is joined this week by Lucas Boulbria, Marlee Hadway, and Stuart Fisher.

On the girls side, the Swan Valley Tigers lost their first game against the Birtle Falcons, 4-6. They will play Miami and Jeanne-Sauve.

The Dauphin Kings gave up the first goal, scored the next, and never looked back.

The Kings are heading to the Turnbull Cup playoffs after they dominated the Neepawa Titans, 7-1, on Friday night at Credit Union Place. Dauphin picked up their 30th win of the season and have advanced to the big dance.

Cooper Kasprick gave Neepawa a 1-0 lead at the 12:14 mark of the second.

Less than four minutes later, Dauphin scored four times and never looked back. Brett Magarell, Declan Hoad, Naaman Hofer, Gabriel Bugeaud, Ty Pratte, Matthew Thomas, and Havyril Simchuk scored for Dauphin in the huge victory, as Dauphin got to their 30th win and clinched a playoff spot.

Cole Sheffield earned the win. Next up for Dauphin is Sunday afternoon against Niverville.
