The Dauphin Kings hit the road for the second last time this season as they take on the Swan Valley Stampeders tonight at the Centennial Arena.

The Kings snapped their five-game losing streak earlier this week against Wayway, and have two wins against the Stamps this year including in the team's last meeting early in January.

Two Kings who have been playing very well as of late will not play tonight because of suspensions, as Grady Hobbs and McCullough Park will not be in the lineup.

Evan Gullet and Reece Hopfner from the Midget Parkland Rangers will draw into the lineup.

Coming into the game, the Stampeders have locked up a playoff spot, and they will take on the Steinbach Pistons in the first round regardless of tonight's result.

You can hear tonight's game here on 730CKDM, beginning with the pregame show just before 7:20.

Hunter Glover will be sleeping great tonight as he scored three goals, and the Dauphin Clippers came back in a big way to steal game one of their best of three series against Killarney, 5-4.

The Clippers jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to Riley Hammond and Glover as he scored his first of the game.

The Raiders then took the game by storm scoring four straight goals to lead 4-2, and then the Clippers picked it up.

Hunter Glover brought the Clippers within one, and with under a minute left Brandon Racette tied the game up at four and sent it into overtime.

In the extra frame, Glover played hero and earned the Clippers a victory in game one.

The Clippers will go for the sweep tomorrow evening in Killarney and game time is set for 7:00.

The Dauphin Kings and the Dauphin Friendship Centre once again came together this season for the "Food for Thought Progam".

"Every Thursday, the kids go to all the elementary schools in and around town and deliver hot lunches," said Christian Laughland, Marketing Director and Media Relations for the Kings. "The players also hang out with the kids, and read them books so it's been a really good thing, and a fun thing to be a part of."

This year's program was the fourth straight year running, and it's something the Kings always love being a part of.

"The players love it," said Christian Laughland, Marketing Director and Media Relations for the Kings. "All of the kids come up to the players and they want the players to sign things, and read to them. The Kings are really big role models in this community. That's why the Kings and the Friendship Centre partnered for the program, because it brings the kids and players together, and it humbles the players a little bit."

The schools included this season were: Barker Elementary School, Smith Jackson Elementary School, Ecole Macneill Elementary School, Henderson Elementary School, and Whitmore Elementary School.

A&W was also a sponsor for the school visits.

The program will return next October for its 5th Anniversary.

It wasn't the exact finish she was looking for, but Mallard's Brigette Lacquette returned to the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport earlier this week to hundreds of people waiting to see the Silver Medalist arrive back from the PyeongChang Olympics.

"It was simply amazing," said Lacquette. "It was a dream come true. I remember playing my first game, and I had the chills. The crowds were amazing, and yeah, it was just great."

Lacquette and the rest of the Canadian Women's Team lost 3-2 in a shootout against the Americans in the final.

"We had a great group of girls there," said Lacquette. "Obviously we came up short of achieving our goal, but, coming home with a medal from the Olympics is still pretty huge."

On December 22, Lacquette was introduced as one of six defenders that would represent Canada at the women's hockey tournament, and with it, Brigette became the first ever First Nations woman to represent the Canadian women's hockey team at an Olympics.

"I just want to be that role model for the young Indigenous kids around Canada," said Lacquette. "I wanted to show them that they can to make it to the world stage with hard work and determination. It doesn't matter where you come from, you can still achieve your dreams like I did."

In five games at the Olympics, Brigette had one assist from the backend.

"I'm going to focus on shooting the puck more," said Lacquette. "I have a pretty hard shot, so I need to utilize it a little more. And, I just have to play with more confidence."

Brigette was one of over 30 women who began training camp with the team looking to get a spot on the roster, but a very good camp for Brigette which included 11 points in 14 games locked up a spot for the Mallard native.

"The depth of Hockey Canada is pretty big," said Lacquette. "So, to make the Olympic team, it's pretty huge."

Brigette will now get some time off.

In just six days, Dauphin's Kiara Wilson will be hitting the water as she will compete at the Manitoba Winter Games in the swimming competition.

"It means a lot because I work really hard," said Wilson. "I'm the youngest girl on the team this year, so it means a ton to me."

At just 11-years-old, Kiara will not only be the youngest girl on her team, but she will be one of the youngest competitors at the Games.

Kiara will compete in six events, and two of her favourites are the 100m backstroke, and 100m IM.

"My goal is to make it to the A-Finals," said Wilson. "I'm working as hard as I can in practice so I can achieve my goal."

The Games begin in just three days with the Opening Ceremonies.

"I'm really excited to stay in the athlete's village," said Wilson. And, to meet new friends, and just enjoy the experience."

In two days Dauphin's Mia Zamrykut will be heading to Thompson for the Manitoba Winter Games.

"It's a really good feeling," said Zamrykut. "I had to beat out a lot of other kids, so it's just a great feeling to be chosen to go to the Games and represent Dauphin."

Zamrykut will compete in the swimming competition in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m fly, 200m IM, 100m fly, and 100m backstroke races.

"I'm going to try my hardest to get my western time so I can compete in more events," said Zamrykut. "I'm also going to try to win some medals, and just improve myself every time out."

Mia was at the Manitoba Summer Games in 2016, and now she can't wait to head to the Winter Games.

"I'm really looking forward to hanging out with my team," said Zamrykut. "The Summer Games were so much fun, and I can't wait to have fun at this one as well. It's also going to be a lot of fun seeing my friends from Winnipeg and Brandon."

Mia and the rest of her team kick off their swimming competition on March 7 at the Norplex Swimming Pool.

Playoff hockey is back in Dauphin tonight as the Clippers welcome Killarney for game one of the best-of-three semifinal series.

The Clippers and Raiders met once in the regular season, and Dauphin won the game, 6-5 in a nail-biter.

In the quarterfinals, the Clippers were pushed to three games, but battled it out and the team's defence was a huge reason why.

In last Sunday’s game, the Clippers allowed just 16 shots on net in the 2-1 win, and created several golden scoring chances.

Game time tonight is set for 7:45 at Credit Union Place.

Numbers within the Parkland Rugby Association continue to rise on a yearly basis, and with that, the Association is looking for donations in order to purchase new equipment.

"Our biggest need right now is a scrum machine," said Rod Carberry, Coach. "The machine is about $5000, but we could really use it now. Our program has gained so much momentum over the past couple years, and the success in the region really is significant."

Some of the success includes this past Fall when the Dauphin Clippers 7's won their league Championship, and the numbers are only expected to increase this season and going forward.

"I got involved in rugby about four years ago, and I would say on average we had 10 boys and girls at practice which was extremely frustrating because we need 15 on the field," said Carberry. "Now, there are times at practice between both programs, we have close to 50 players on the field."

To donate today, or how you can get involved with the program, you can contact Rod at 648-6587.

Seven swimmers in the Parkland that are a part of the Parkland Gators are getting set to head to the Manitoba Winter Games, but first, they will host a send-off tonight at the swimming pool at the Parkland Rec Complex.

"We want to show off our swimmers that will take part in the Games," said Diana Wilson, President of the Gators. "It's a great achievement for the swimmers, so we want to recognize them."

Anyone is welcome to attend tonight, and it kicks off at 7:00.

The Manitoba Winter Games start on March 4 in Thompson, and the swimming portion of the event takes place on March 7.

"We have really high expectations," said Wilson. "From a parents perspective, we want all the kids to enjoy the experience, and have fun. From the athlete's perspective, they want to win that gold medal."

All the swimming takes place at the Norplex Swimming Pool.

Dauphin's Darrin Chrisp wrapped up his second season with the Parkland Rangers this past Sunday, which also wraps up his Midget hockey career.

The season ended for Chrisp and the Rangers with two-straight losses against Southwest.

"It was a fun time with all the guys," said Chrisp. "We didn't finish off where we wanted to, but I couldn't have asked for a better time with a great group of guys. It was definitely tough saying goodbye to all the guys."

Darrin is planning on going to school next year at Red River College in Winnipeg and hopes to play in the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League.

"I just need to stay in shape, and get in the gym as often as I can," said Chrisp. And, hopefully, I can get on the ice as much as possible."

When asked about his favourite memory as a Ranger, Chrisp knew exactly what it was.

"It was definitely my first goal in my first year with the Rangers against Trent Miner of the Brandon Wheat Kings," said Chrisp.

In 75 games with the Rangers, Chrisp had 10 points, two of which were goals.
