The MJHL's OCN Blizzard will hold a 'Save the OCN Blizzard' rally at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre Thursday, January 5th at 7:00pm.

The hockey club is looking for letters of support from alumni, the community, and fans to help keep the team alive after the Opaskwayak Cree Nation announced last week they would cease the club's operations at the end of this season.

Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to the event.

The OCN Blizzard board of directors is going to try and make it work.

One of the men instrumental in making the OCN Blizzard a reality doesn't think the team is done just yet. Boh Kubrakovich says he doesn't think it's over and he doesn't think the Blizzard are going to go anywhere.

Virden and the surrounding area will no longer be hosting the 2018 Power Smart Manitoba Winter Games.

While a large number of volunteers stepped forward to help with the games, many were unable to commit to the length of time required for the games.

Virden mayor Jeff McConnell is disappointed that they won't have the opportunity to showcase the community to visitors, but is excited about the prospect of hosting large-scale events in the future based on the number of interested volunteers.

The Games are now in need of a new host location in time for the 2018 start date and is now reviewing previous bidders and hosts like Thompson, and the joint hosting communities of Winkler and Morden.
