Another successful Ukrainian Night for the Dauphin Kings Saturday. Over 1700 fans were entertained with Ukrainian music and dancing and a Dauphin Kings win.

Kings defenseman Trevor Selk scored his second and third goals of the season including the game winner in overtime over the Virden Oil Capitals.

The Kings are now 2 points behind Swan Valley for the final playoff spot and host Neepawa Tuesday

Don't forget Friday we have another edition of the Kings One Hour Power Play Show prior to the Dauphin Kings game against the Portage Terriers at 7:30.

On this week's show we talk with Kevin Beyak about the Kings and Winnipegosis Tigers Midget team hosting a joint practice.

We'll chat with Phil Fafard, Hockey Manitoba President Bill Whitehead, and Dauphin Midget girls coach Rich Lemieux about Hockey Manitoba's decision to divide the Parkland's Midget AAA Girls boundaries.

And of course, lots of talk about Saturday's Ukrainian Night when the Kings host the Virden Oil Capitals.

Despite heavily out-shooting Yellowhead in the first period 21-6, the Chiefs found the back of the net three times in the second frame to power themselves to a 5-2 win.

The Parkland only put 3 shots on net during the second period, and another 7 in the third. After out-shooting their opponents by more than 3-to-1 in the first period Yellowhead ultimately came out on top in the shots department as well finishing 34-31.

Yellowhead goaltender Reese Jones made a number of key stops in the first to keep his team in the game, only surrendering one goal to Reece Hopfner of the Rangers.

The Chiefs evened the score in the second, then the Parkland put themselves out in front again. Goaltender Nicholas Arp caught the Chiefs on a bad line change, firing a pass to Dustin Mozdzen at the far blue line who was sure to capitalize on the breakaway opportunity.

Yellowhead scored twice more before the second expired, one of them on the power play once again.

Then in the third period drama struck. With Rangers goaltender Quinn Munro out of the lineup for an undisclosed amount of time, Nicholas Arp fell just 0:36 into the period appearing to favour his lower-body.

Rangers coach Brad Dupasquier could not comment on the extent of Arp's injuries after the game, but did confirm that he had gone to the hospital.

The Rangers called up Zach Grouette from the Dauphin Clippers in time for the game. The former Parkland bantam Ranger stopped 8 of 9 shots sent his way.

The Chiefs also added an empty net goal before the game's conclusion.

The Rangers back in action this weekend visiting Interlake and the Winnipeg Wild.

The Dauphin Kings will practice with the Winnipegosis Tigers midget team after all.

The Kings and Tigers planned on holding a joint practice at the Winnipegosis Arena in late November but the event was cancelled due to poor road conditions.

The event is now back on and will be held Wednesday, January 25th.

The Kings and Tigers will practice from 5:30-6:30. Following the practice the Kings will sign autographs until 7:00. At 7:00 fans will have a chance to skate with the Kings.

After a scoreless first period both teams began finding the back of the net in the second period, OCN ultimately coming out on top 5-4.

The Kings got a lot of help from their defense with Austin Friesen and Trevor Selk recording two of the Kings tallies, each added an assist as well.

Austin Friesen got the Kings on the board first with a power play goal. The Kings finished 2-for-4 with the extra attacker.

The Blizzard scored two to put themselves out in front 2-1, then Trevor Selk got a monkey off his back, finally recording his first MJHL goal to tie the game 2-2.

OCN added two goals from Brady Keeper and a highlight reel tic-tac-toe Tristan Elie goal from Jeremy Dumont.

To start the third Riese Gaber completed a full rotation of OCN's zone on the power play and scored on a wrap-around to bring the Kings within one. However, Eamon Miller did almost the same a few moments later, to restore OCN's two goal lead.

Within the last 5 minutes the Kings got back to within a goal after Trevor Selk put a shot toward the net that Daniel Chartrand redirected to make the score 5-4.

With 1:18 remaining the Kings were given a power play after Keaton Leininger was cross checked in front of the net, giving the Kings a two-man advantage with Holtby out of the net.

Despite a number of chances, the Kings couldn't solve Matt Kustra, who earned his first win as a member of the OCN Blizzard.

The Kings now look ahead to tomorrow's practice in Winnipegosis, then to Friday's home game against the Portage Terriers.

Hockey Manitoba has spoken, girls seeking to play Midget AAA hockey in the Parkland will have to seek it elsewhere.

Over the weekend a vote was held whether or not to allow the Parkland to have a team in the Midget AAA league, which was voted against and passed.

Parkland Minor Hockey Association Director of Female Hockey Phil Fafard says the decision is disappointing, but could be changed in the future.

The Parkland has been divided as follows:

- Players living north of highway 5 would now be part of the Norman region playing out of Thompson

- Players living south of highway 5 would become part of the Yellowhead region and play in Shoal Lake

- Players on the east side of the highway south of Ste. Rose would play for Central Plains out of Portage

Hockey Manitoba President Bill Whitehead says that players always have the option to appeal any decision to Hockey Manitoba if they are unhappy.

On this Friday's Kings One Hour Power Play Show from 4:00-5:00pm CKDM Sports Director Dane Nichol will speak with Fafard and Whitehead, exploring each perspective around the decision.

A Parkland hockey player is in the spotlight at this week's Recycle Everywhere MJHL Player of the Week.

Tyler Jubenvill of Gilbert Plains had this week's standout performance. The 17-year-old Winkler Flyers defenseman recorded three goals and three assists in six games on the Flyers blueline.

Runners-up this week are Portage's James McIsaac and Wayway's Brandon Stanley.
