After dominating the West-North U15 men's qualifiers this past weekend, Swan River's Karter Meyn and his team are heading to the Manitoba Winter Games.
"It means a lot," said Meyn. "I've always really wanted to compete at the Manitoba Games."
The foursome from Swan River had no troubles earning their spot at the games, as they beat Team Gawryluik twice, 8-1 and 13-6.
"This past weekend showed we're a pretty good team, and we can hold our own," said Meyn. "We should be able to compete with the other teams at the games."
The U15 men's curling tournament gets underway on March 7 at the Burntwood Curling Club.
"I think this year we're going more for the experience because we've never been at an event like this," said Meyn. "My expectations are to finish in the top half, and if we can get to the podium, we would be really happy."
Meyn also notes he's looking forward to meeting new people at the event.
The Manitoba Winter Games kick off with Phase One, on March 4, in Thompson.

The Parkland Rangers once again built a big lead, but they couldn't hold it, as they fell, 4-3, against Yellowhead, last night.
Tanyon Koshowski put the Rangers up 1-0, just 0:19 into the game, and Carter Cockburn extended the team's lead, near the midway point of the period, as they led, 2-0, after 20.
The Rangers extended their lead to 3-0, in the second, but the Chiefs scored three second-period goals, and one in the third, to steal two points from the Rangers.

The Dauphin Kings led twice, but they couldn't hold it, as they fell to the OCN Blizzard, 7-4.
Kyle Oleksiuk put the Kings up 1-0, 16:07 into the first, off a beautiful pass from Wilson Northey. The Blizz came back with a goal, with just 34 seconds left in the first, as the two teams went into the dressing room, tied.
The second period was a goal-fest, with four coming from the OCN Blizzard, and two from Dauphin. Just 11 seconds in, Grady Hobbs received a pass in front, and put it in the back of the net.
The Blizz came back with two straight, but Kyle Oleksiuk came back to tie it, scoring his second of the game. From there, OCN scored two to lead, 5-3, after 40.
Ian Briscoe scored for the Kings in the third, but it wasn't enough, as the Blizz scored two, to beat the Kings, 7-4.

Russell's Wyatt Tweet is heading to the Manitoba Winter Games when they kick off in early March.
"It means a lot," said Tweet. "I'm honoured to be selected to play with the best of the best."
Wyatt will suit up on Team West (White) at the games, that are being played in Thompson.
"I'm expecting to be really challenged, because I'm playing with, and against, the best players in the province," said Tweet. "If we move the puck well, and don't be selfish, we should be able to come out on top."
The men's hockey tournament is March 4-7, at the C. A. Nesbitt Arena.
"I'm really looking forward to meeting new people, and making new relationships," said Tweet. "And, going out there and showing my stuff on the ice."
Wyatt currently has 27 points in 32 games, this year, with the Bantam Parkland Rangers.

The Parkland Rangers will not be heading to the playoffs this season, but, they do have an opportunity to find a way to finish the season on the right foot, as they welcome the Yellowhead Chiefs to town tonight.
The Rangers were eliminated from playoff contention after the Southwest Cougars beat the Thrashers this past weekend.
In the last 16 outings, the Rangers have gone 3-13, after starting the season 6-3.
With a win tonight, the Rangers would even the season series with Yellowhead, at two wins apiece.
The puck drops tonight at 7:30, at Credit Union Place.

The Dauphin Kings make their final trip to the Pas tonight, to face off against the OCN Blizzard, for the final time this season.
The Kings are coming off their biggest win of the season, on Saturday night, when they beat the league-best Steinbach pistons, 4-3, in overtime.
Recent college commit Wilson Northey will look to build off the success he had on Saturday night, against the Pistons, when he had one goal and two helpers.
Rookie McCullough Park has also been playing great hockey as of late, with one goal and three assists, in his last two games.
Tonight’s game is the first of three road games, for the rest of the month, for the team, but the Kings will return home for their next two, after this evening’s tilt.

A great regular season earned Dauphin's Regan Hedley the right to call himself an All-Star.
Regan was named an All-Star in the NCHL, after the regular season wrapped up this past weekend.
"It's an honour," said Hedley. "It just reflects the type of squad we have. There are lots of guys who helped me earn the award."
In just 13 games this season, Hedley had 21 points (11G).
"There were a few games that we had a short bench, so it gave me an opportunity to score more," said Hedley. "I got some bounces, too, so it all worked out really well."
Hedley, and the rest of the Grandview Comets, open up their NCHL playoffs on Friday, against the Foxwarren Falcons.
"We have a healthy squad going into playoffs," said Hedley. "As long as everyone shows up, we should be fine."
Game one between the Falcons and Comets is set for 8:45, on Friday night, at the GACC.

After a hard-fought qualifier this past weekend, Dauphin's Anya Jackson and her curling team are off to Thompson in early March for the Manitoba Winter Games.
Jackson and her team consisting of Sawyer Elliot, Tenley Ilnisky, and Paige Kabel won both of their games to qualify for the games.
"It's a great opportunity for our team," said Jackson. "I'm really excited, and I know the other girls are as well. We worked really hard, and we all can't wait to play at the games.
The U15 women's event will feature eight teams from around the province.
"It's going to be a tough challenge, and new for us because we haven't played some of the teams," said Jackson. "I'm hoping we can play as many games as possible, and just grow as a team for the future."
The curling competition at the games will be the first games for Jackson and her team.
"The experience will definitely help us moving forward," said Jackson. "We're going to grow, and I think it's going to be great."
The U15 women's competition kicks off on March 7 at the Burntwood Curling Club.
"I'm looking forward to meeting new people, and watching other sports," said Jackson. "It's also going to be fun playing new teams, and just enjoying the overall games."
The Manitoba Winter Games kick off on March 4 in Thompson.

The Dauphin Clippers varsity girls basketball team are well underway with their season, and Dauphin's Logan Broome is a big reason for the team's success.
"Things have been going really good," said Broome. "We've become a really strong team this year, and we've developed a lot. We know how to work together, and that's probably the biggest thing."
The 17-year-old Senior at the DRCSS is the captain for this year's team and enjoys the challenge of leading the team on and off the court.
"It's important to know how to look out for the team," said Broome. "It's important to get along with everyone, so the whole team can come together, and that's what we've done so far."
The Clippers will continue their season with tournaments, and games leading up to the Zone Championships.
"We're looking to make it to the Provincial Championships this year," said Broome. "We know how to beat Swan River, we just have to work hard to get it done. Then, hopefully, we can advance to Interzones and beat Neelin."
Going forward, Logan hopes to continue playing basketball at the next level in Manitoba, or elsewhere.

It was quite the weekend for the McCreary Bantam Mustangs, as they were in Brandon for the Tournament of Champions, and they ended up winning the whole tournament.
"It was a huge accomplishment for us," said Matthew Evenson, Head Coach. "We had to win a Tournament of Champions, just to get to this one, this past weekend. It was huge for the team and the community. They supported us really well."
The team will now prepare for a playoff game, on Thursday, against Minnedosa.
"We're looking forward to that game," said Evenson. "We ended up fifth in our league, so we have to play the fourth place team. We battled through injuries, and sickness, all season long. We didn't finish, where we wanted to, in the regular season, so we have to elevate our play now."
The Mustangs will host Bantam C Provincials in early March.
"We're just taking it one game at a time, so we're not focusing on provincials right now," said Evenson. "We're not the same team we were before Christmas. We're just starting to get back healthy. Everyone's playing a high tempo game here, and I think we have a really good chance at winning it this year."
The Mustangs also won the Rural Tournament of Champions in Carberry, earlier this season.

Dauphin's Brad Potoroka is heading into the NCHL playoffs as an All-Star.
The 25-year-old was named to the third All-Star team after the season wrapped up this past weekend.
"It's a huge honour," said Potoroka. "I worked really hard this year, and it's been a good year. It feels really good to be recognized."
Potoroka scored 11 goals this season and had 11 helpers, which sits in a tie for top spot on the Comets roster.
"One of my strengths is speed, so I really focused on keeping my feet always moving on the ice," said Potoroka. "Usually when I keep my feet moving, things start working out, and I get the bounces."
