The Dauphin Kings wrapped up their Spring Camp earlier this afternoon at Credit Union Place as the first and third place games went down.

The jam-packed schedule started on Friday and over 100 Kings' prospects attended camp.

"It was a really good turnout and it was probably one of the best turnouts in the past few years," said Christian Laughland, Marketing Director & Media Relations. "It was nice to see a lot of prospects come down to show off their stuff."

"It was also a good economic boost for the City of Dauphin with all of the kids and their parents staying in hotels around our community," he added.

Three practices started off the camp beginning at 1:30 on Friday. Games started on Friday evening with a goalie session on Saturday morning before games took centre ice once again leading up to the end of camp today.

"Things started off a little slow, but it just took one or two teams to pick up the intensity," said Mitch Topinka, Assistant Coach. "Overall, it was a good camp and we're happy with it. Our list guys came out and played well and even some guys that we weren't expecting to play as well as they did."

The Kings' had several rookies on their roster this past season that are well on their way to being stars around the league and at the next level. That trend continued over the weekend.

"There were a couple 2003 kids that came in and really impressed the organization," added Topinka. "Some played high school in Winnipeg and they came in and had a good weekend. There were some guys that we were looking more from but overall, we're happy with how the whole weekend went."

Next up for the team is the Early Bird season ticket deadline which is later this month at the Kinsmen Business Expo inside Credit Union Place. After that, the Kings' will host their Par 3 event at the Dauphin Lake Golf Club. You can enter your team starting tomorrow by heading to Aspen Insurance. It's $150 per person or $600 per team.

The National Championships have come to an end for Ochre River’s, Emma Jensen and her foursome.

The team dropped an 8-6 decision against New Brunswick in the playoff round.

It was a great week for Jensen, Kaitlyn Szewczyk, Jaycee Terrick, Zoey Terrick, and Gracey Gulak.

They went 0-6 last year at the event, but they rebounded by going 4-2 this year in the round-robin which qualified them for the playoffs.

The Parkland 08 Pirates won the Prospects Challenge in Dauphin last week and now they’re playing very well in Portage.

At the team’s season ending tournament, they’re 2-1.

They started it off with a 7-3 win over Pembina Valley.

After dropping a 7-2 game against the Brandon Wheat Kings, the team rebounded very nicely with a 5-4 shootout win over the Southwest Jets.

Next up is the Wheatland AAA Wild tomorrow morning and a win would likely advance the team to the semi-finals.

The Dauphin Kings Prospect Camp continues today at Credit Union Place.

Despite dropping their final game, Emma Jensen and her team are playoff bound.

They finished 4-2 in the round-robin and they will play Alberta on Saturday morning at 8:30.

The playoffs are a double knockout format.

Despite outshooting their opponent, the Stampeders fell to the Portage Terriers 3-0 in game one of the MJHL final.

The Terriers pushed the majority of the play in the opening frame but were outshot by Swan Valley.

Joey Moffatt would score the series first goal, letting a shot go from the top of the circle that beat Merek Pipes on the power play at 7:06 of the first.

The Stampeders sent 15 shots on net in the opening frame but couldn’t solve Ethan Peterson.

Scoring would resume in the third period as Ty Barnstable was left all alone in front of the goal, beating Merek Pipes at the 11:05 mark.

Chase Brakel would score into an empty net eight minutes later and the Portage Terriers would skate to a 3-0 win in game one of the best of seven series.

Final shots on goal were 34-31 for Swan Valley.

Game two will go Sunday April 7 in Swan River.

Puck drop is set for 7:30pm.

Later this summer Dauphin's Rylan Gibbs will be eligible for the MJHL and WHL Bantam draft's that take place in Winnipeg and Red Deer respectively.

Before that Rylan had a really good chance this past weekend to improve his draft stock as he took part in Hockey Manitoba's Program of Excellence.

The event included a combine and games. Rylan went into the weekend with a lower-body injury which is never easy on a player, especially when they're looking to impress scouts ahead of what will be a very big summer for the Dauphinite.

That injury didn't stop Rylan, however. He battled through and made it a successful weekend for himself.

"I think it was a really good weekend," added Gibbs. "I mean it was tough with the injury but I just pushed myself through it and gave it my all."

"There were so many great players and I never got the chance to play some of them before the weekend because they played in different leagues," he added. "It was a fun learning experience and I think I performed pretty well despite having an injury and not knowing much about a lot of the players."

The next few months are very important for Rylan, just like they will be for every other draft eligible player.

"I'll be working out a ton with Doug Hedley this summer for sure and I need to sharpen my skills at home as much as I can," added Gibbs. "As soon as I can get on the ice, I'll be ready to do the things needed to get better."

Before Rylan even played with the Rangers this season, he was set for a change. He played Bantam AA, but he took the next step this season.

He played in 36 regular season games and put up 36 points which were the third most on the Rangers team. He also had three goals in the provincials to lead the team in scoring.

"It was a big jump and I got tossed around a bit but that's all a part of the game," added Gibbs. "I definitely got stronger as the season went on and I got comfortable with the contact."

"I thought I had a pretty great season overall," added Gibbs. "I have things I need to work on but I thought I had a good season and it was a lot of fun."

The WHL draft is on May 2 while the MJHL draft goes on June 2.

Down by two heading into the last end isn’t enough to stop the all Parkland foursome at the U18 nationals in Sherwood Park.

Emma Jensen, Kaitlyn Szewczyk, Jaycee Terrick, and Gracey Gulak scored three in the eighth end to beat Newfoundland & Labrador, 7-6.

Newfoundland had control of the game after four ends as they led 4-2. They also added one in the fifth to lead 5-2.

That’s when the Jensen led foursome turned it on. They scored two in the sixth before Newfoundland added a single in the seventh.

Needing to score three in the final end to win, that’s exactly what the Parkland foursome did.

Manitoba is now 4-1 and they are atop Pool B tied with Alberta. Manitoba owns the tiebreaker after they beat Alberta yesterday.

The team finishes their round-robin on Friday afternoon against Quebec. They are 2-2.

The Parkland Midget Rangers held their year-end banquet inside the Aspen Lodge at the Parkland Rec Complex.

Graduating goalie, Zach Grouette was named the team's Most Valuable Player.
