When the Telus Junior Men's and Women's Curling Provincial Championships begin on January 1 inside of the Dauphin Curling Club and Credit Union Place, the women's event will feature a local sister duo.

Team Friesen booked their berth to the event last weekend at the St. Vital Curling Club in Winnipeg. On Team Friesen is Dauphin's Emma Jensen and her sister, Hanne Jensen.

In the qualifier, the foursome scored two points in the ninth to take a 6-5 lead heading into the 10th without the hammer. They would play another solid end and they ended up stealing a point for a 7-5 win against Team Ogg.

"It felt awesome. This is Hanne's last year as a junior and just to go back to our hometown and get the chance to curl on arena ice, it's incredible," said Emma Jensen.

"It's so exciting. When we found out it was in Dauphin, we wanted to get our spot that much more," included Hanne Jensen. "We're going to have so much support and we just can't wait."

Ironically enough, Hanne and Emma aren't the only sisters on the team. Skip Alex Friesen is joined by her sister, Becky Friesen who plays second.

"It's a lot of fun. We're a dynamic sister foursome," said Hanne Jensen. "We're always having so much fun and we're always laughing. I couldn't ask to be part of a better team, it makes curling that much more exciting."

Seeding and schedules are expected to be released at some point this week. Whatever seed they end up, the two sisters from Dauphin and two from Winnipeg are ready to give it everything they have.

"We're going for sure as the underdogs, but I think we're okay with that," added Hanne. "We have the ability to win. We have the capability to win and if we play our best, I think we can. We'll play our game and see how it goes."

Throughout the next two weeks leading up to the big event in town, Darnell Duff will be chatting with each and every team that is either all from the Parkland or teams that have Parkland flavour on them.
