They play on Saturday and Sunday inside of Credit Union Place.

The Dauphin Kings had some late pressure, but they couldn’t capitalize on it as they dropped their third straight game.

On a night where Matthias Smith played very well, Dauphin lost to Swan Valley, 3-1.

Smith made 33 saves in the game on 35 shots as Levi Mitchell got the night off after playing five straight games.

Nakodan Greyeyes scored Dauphin’s lone goal in the game.

For Swan Valley, Swan River’s Jackson Betcher scored two goals on the evening to lift the Stamps’.

Dauphin will look to get back on track when they play in Virden.

The Parkland U18 Rangers have announced that Arnie Caplan and Dylan Storey are no longer a part of the team’s coaching staff.

As a result, Tyler Carefoot has been named the interim Head Coach for team, effective immediately.

He will be behind the bench when the Rangers play the Wheat Kings in Brandon tonight.

The team will name an assistant coach in the near future.

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League is making a change beginning in June. After 18 years, Kim Davis will be stepping down as Commissioner of the league.

Kim was named the Commissioner in June of 2002 and with that, he became the first full-time commissioner of the league.

Since his appointment, there have been over 6,000 MJHL regular-season games played along with over 700 playoff games and more than 200 regional or national championship games.

Over the next two months, the MJHL will also be adding two new staff members.

"It's kind of parted me because I've been doing it so long," said Kim Davis. "I've just had enough of this type of work and that's not a negative, I just don't want to do it anymore."

The search for a new Commissioner has also come to a close. Kevin Saurette will take over for Kim at the end of June 2020. Currently, Kevin is the Director of Operations and he's been so for the past four seasons.

Prior to joining the MJHL, Saurette played nine-years in the ECHL, AHL, as well as overseas and in the United Kingdom. Saurette is originally from Brandon, Manitoba.

One of the positions the league will be looking to fill is Kevin's and that search has now begun. With Kevin taking over, Kim knows the league is in good hands.

"Yeah, it really is. He's a great character and he has a great personality," said Davis. "This is a very demanding job, there is a ton of conflict between coaches and the league office. It takes a special character to do this job successfully and Saurette is that."

"He works really well with people so he already has the respect of coaches," continued Davis. "I think he's going to do a great job with the league."

Davis' final big event as a Commissioner of the MJHL comes on the national stage. The Portage Terriers will host the Centennial Cup from May 9-17 at Stride Place.

You can hear Darnell Duff's full chat with Kim Davis during the Dauphin Kings game tonight during the second intermission.

The Dauphin Kings will look to snap their two-game losing streak tonight when they hit the ice.

For the second time in a row, the team plays the Swan Valley Stampeders, but this time the game will be in Swan River.

Dauphin outplayed the Stamps' for a good majority of Saturday's game, but they still lost 5-2.

Tonight is the first of three games in four days for Dauphin as they will be in Virden on Friday and Selkirk on Saturday.

With the team being on the road, that means you can hear all the action with the Voice of the Dauphin Kings, Darnell Duff. The pregame show is slated for 7:15.

The Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts begins later this week in Rivers as the best women's curling teams in the province battle for a provincial title.

The event welcomes the likes of Team Jennifer Jones, Team Kerri Einarson, and much more. Dauphin doesn't have any representation at the event when it comes to playing, but that doesn't mean the City of Sunshine won't be making a big difference.

Two members of Dauphin Rec Services have been selected to attend the event and work on the ice crew for the entirety of the event.

Cory Bremner and James Slykhuis will join the world-famous ice maker, Greg Ewasko and his crew.

"I'm really excited about this and I know James is as well," said Bremner. Working at the juniors earlier this month was the first big curling event for me. I learned a lot and I'm looking forward to learning a lot more."

Cory and James were both a part of the very dedicated group of workers from Rec Services that made sure the ice in both the Dauphin Curling Club and Credit Union Place was at its best for the entirety of the Telus Junior Men's and Women's Provincial Championships.

Later this week won't be the first time that Cory and James have worked alongside Greg. He was also the Head Ice Technician for the event in Dauphin which was an extreme success.

"It was honestly almost overwhelming with all the stuff that Greg taught us," continued Bremner. "We filled up multiple pages of paper and of course, any of the stuff that we retained ourselves as well."

Cory is also one of the Zamboni drivers at Credit Union Place and the Rotary Arena and he stays extremely busy while doing so. Since learning a ton at the beginning of this month, Cory and the entire crew have also been receiving compliments about the ice inside of the Dauphin Curling Club.

"People are really happy with how we've been maintaining the ice since that event," concluded Bremner. "It's nice to hear from the public that you're doing a good job at your job."

Cory and James will hit the road on Thursday morning and they'll return to Dauphin on Sunday.

In just 193 days, the Manitoba Summer Games Powered by Manitoba Hydro will take over Dauphin as athletes from all over the province will compete in a variety of sports.

With just about six and a half months until the event, each and every committee is ramping up their planning for the event. So far, 730CKDM, the Dauphin Herald, and Parkland Source for Sports have come on major sponsors for the event.

If you're looking to support the huge event that's coming to town, you can do so.

"Our sponsorship committee will be hitting the streets here soon," said Clayton Swanton. "Whether you're a business or an individual, anyone can jump on. We want to pull off the best games possible and of course, that takes a few dollars to do so. We're really excited to showcase Dauphin."

During Ukrainian Night this past Saturday inside of Credit Union Place, the volunteer committee had a booth set up on the concourse. Many people signed up to help out during the event. If you didn't have the chance to head to the game or if you were at the game but you didn't sign up, you still have plenty of time to do so.

There is no cost associated with volunteering.

"First of all, thank you so much to everyone who signed up at Ukrainian Night," said Alicia Zurba. "We're always looking for more volunteers. It's really a great way to be a part of the games, it's going to be a special event and it's coming right here to Dauphin."

There is a few ways to sign up to volunteer. The easiest way is by clicking here. You can also check them out on Facebook. If neither of those options works for you, you can head down to the Parkland Rec Complex and pick up a form.

For everything 2020 Manitoba Summer Games Powered by Manitoba Hydro, make sure you keep it locked to 730CKDM as Darnell Duff will have everything you need.

The Grand Plains Novice Hawks #2 won a consolation title over the weekend.

Playing in a tournament in Virden, the team won three of their four games to win the A-Side Consolation Championship. That means they finished in third place out of 14 teams.

In their first game, they beat Oak Lake, 17-6. They would follow that up with another solid win against Virden, 10-5.

Playing against Virden #2 in their semi-final, Grand Plains fell short in a great game, 13-10. They would respond in their next game by beating Carlyle, 14-9.

"It felt great to win. I'm very proud of these kids and have been all year," said Steegan Stoski, Head Coach. "They work really hard to win as much as they do. It's a great group of kids and parents."

The quarterback that led the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to their first Grey Cup title in 29 years isn't going anywhere. The organization has announced that they've come to terms on a two-year contract extension with Zach Collaros.

He started four games with Winnipeg last season and he won all four, which included the Grey Cup triumph over Hamilton.

In the playoffs, Zach completed 45-of-69 passes for 630 yards and he added two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Collaros was scheduled to become a free agent next month which will now not happen.

The UCT #445 Brandon Junior Super League of Curling features some of the best teams from around the province. The ultimate goal at the end of it all is winning a title, but only one team can achieve that.

This year's team that did so had two Parkland players on the roster. Stacy Sime and Rebecca Sahulka joined Team McCannell and what a season they ended up having at the Brandon Curling Club.

The team which features Stacy, Rebecca, Hallie, Hannah, and Seth White, went undefeated the whole season and they ended up winning the title.

In their semi-final, they beat Team Freiheit, 8-0. Playing against Team Veysey in the finals, Stacy and the rest of the foursome won 9-3. Rebecca didn't play in the finals so Seth White stepped up and helped the team come out on top.

"It was really exciting, we always curl really well together and it's an awesome group," said Sime. "We had some really close games against our competitors, but we found a way to get it done."

Prior to the playoffs, the team cruised through the regular season portion. They went a perfect 14-0. So add two playoff wins to that and they finished 16-0.

"We really played well all season long. Our dynamic together as a team is super strong, we never had any problems," continued Sime. "Everyone did their job."

Earlier this month, Stacy played in another big event, but she didn't have to leave her hometown. She joined Team McCannell for the U21 Telus Junior Women's Provincial Championships that were played inside of Credit Union Place and the Dauphin Curling Club. They finished the tournament on a strong note as they won two of their final three games.

Overall, they went 2-5 and it was certainly a week that the Dauphinite will never forget.

"It was really exciting to play my last junior provincials in town," concluded Sime. "I had a great cheering section which was a pretty special feeling. We didn't do as well as we would have hoped, but we had a lot of fun."

The McCreary Mustangs squirts hockey team hit the road on Sunday and they brought a trophy back home.

They played in a tournament in Onanole and they won two games to win it. First, they beat a team that featured players from Erickson, Onanole, and Sandy Lake.

The Mustangs would then cruise past Minnedosa in the final to claim the trophy.
