Klim Georgiev was a difference maker. Whether it was scoring a goal, making a great defensive play or making a perfect outlet pass, the Toronto native made great things happen during his time with the Dauphin Kings.
One of his great passes came at the Centennial Cup when he was beneath his goal line and he found Brayden Dube at centre ice then Brayden did the rest as he found the back of the net to complete his first national championship hat-trick.
While Georgiev won't get another opportunity to show his stuff at the junior level, his hockey career is advancing to the next level as he announced his commitment to play with the York University Lions who are a part of Canadian University Sport. Klim had heard from a friend that the Lions program was a great one and the team's coaches reached out to him. Georgiev ultimately believed it was the best fit.
"I can't wait, it's been about a month since I last played a game so I'm looking forward to getting on the ice," said Georgiev. "USports is a different brand of hockey. Everyone will be bigger, stronger and better so I'm looking forward to that challenge."
Nicknamed 'Georgie', Klim played 31 regular-season games with Dauphin, scoring three times and adding 14 assists. He was acquired from the Cowichan Valley Capitals early in the season. Moving forward into the playoffs, Klim scored four more times and added two assists. It just proves that when the stakes of each game rise, Georgiev rises to the occasion. He also enjoyed being out in the community and he completely embraced being a junior-hockey player. That means not just being on the ice, but being out in the community.
"It was an amazing experience, I didn't really know what to expect when I came in," offered Georgiev. "The organization is first class and I think it's safe to say that we had a lot of success."
Georgiev joins what has become a long list of former Kings to advance to the next level. Parker Malchuk has committed to the University of Manitoba, Kaden Bryant is heading to the University of Ottawa while Colby Jaquet will play for Mike Babcock at the University of Saskatchewan. Carson Cherepak was eligible to return; however, he is heading to RPI to play Division 1 hockey.

The Ste. Rose Expos were trying to advance to the provincial championships, the Roblin Stars were trying to stay alive.
Something had to give Tuesday night when the two baseball teams hooked up in game two of a best-of-three U18 provincial qualifying series. Ste. Rose jumped out to a series lead with a convincing 14-2 win in game one, a game that featured great pitching and the team's offence was solid.
The Stars came out determined-looking to keep their season alive; however, that wasn't the case. The Expos downed the Stars, 7-3, and they're now off the 'AA' provincials next weekend in Brandon. Just like game one, some strong pitching led Ste. Rose to the win and their offence was strong once enough.
Mark Hazelwood is the team's coach and he says it was a great group effort.
"We played really well, especially because of the circumstances," he said. "We haven't practiced a ton this year, we just haven't gotten that many reps. Our guys are doing awesome and they're playing very well."
As it is for many small-town rural teams, somewhat of a daunting task is ahead for the Expos. They're in pool B alongside two Winnipeg teams, Team Oildome and Team Pembina Hills.
Team schedule:
Friday, July 15 vs Winnipeg #3 - 1:45 p.m. @ Sumner Field
Friday, July 15 vs Winnipeg #2 - 6:45 p.m. @ Sumner Field
Saturday, July 16 vs Oildome - 8:45 a.m. @ Andrews Field
Saturday, July 16 vs Pembina Hills - 1:45 p.m. @ Andrews Field
While Hazelwood knows the team will be in tough, he does believe in the group.
"We have a pretty good group of kids and we know we have some pretty good pitching," said Hazelwood. "If our bats can round into form, we'll be competitive and be right there with the three teams in our pool."
Team roster:
Shayne Shura Froese, Kayden Caumartin, Ryan Benson, Daenen Delaurier, Liam Musgrove, Jeff Gilmore, Kyle Gilmore, Jacob Martin, Brooke White, Mathew Vandepoele, Isaac Walker, Ashley Scott, Jacey Brindle, and Bree Walker.

Thomas Scott could almost feel it.
A second-round 72 at the Selkirk Golf & Country Club Tuesday in a Maple Leaf Junior Tour Event saw Scott end up in a 36-hole tie with Jack Taylor. As you know, there are no ties so a playoff between Scott and Taylor was needed. Ultimately, Scott came up short as Taylor won the playoff to take home the title. It was Scott's best finish of the season.
Eric Prokopowich; meanwhile, who entered the second round in the lead, posted a 78 and finished two strokes back of Taylor and Scott in the junior boys' event.
Jackson Delaurier finished in a tie for third in the juvenile boys' event after an 82 in his first round and a 76 in his second. Boston Karlson finished two 12 strokes back of Jackson.

It's been about 10 years since Shaq Houle has played billiards competitively. However, time is clearly just a number for the 25-year-old from Ebb and Flow because at the end of the day, it doesn't seem to matter what sport it is, Houle can take over.
In Edmonton, that's exactly what Shaq did playing in the Western Canadian Valley National 8 Ball Association championships. First competing in the singles event, Houle even surprised himself a bit as he won eight matches to claim the title in the novice division.
Patience is certainly a key to having success on the table and Houle was very pleased with his efforts.
"It was a great tournament to be a part of, there were some great players that gave me a good go," said Houle. "I actually shot better than I thought I would with not playing in a while. I'm really happy that I was able to pull it off."
With one title already locked up, Shaq switched his focus to team play as he teamed up with Keyon Malcolm, Bradley Roulette and Leon Houle Sr. for the team part of the event and the four got on an early roll and found a way to advance to the a-side final. They dropped that game; however, they rebounded very nicely and ended up running the table to win the title in the novice division.
Two titles in a matter of two days and a great experience along the way, Edmonton treated Shaq and company very well.
"There were a lot of laughs and we all shot very strong," added Houle. "I'm happy that I was able to share the table with three great guys and it's great that we won."

The Argos started to manufacture a comeback at the beginning of the third quarter. Brandon Banks scored a touchdown from a 45-yard pass by McLeod Bethel-Thompson. Boris Bede gave Toronto the extra point. The score was 17-10 in favour of Winnipeg at the end of the third quarter.
With only twenty-five seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Markeith Ambles scored a touchdown for Toronto. However, Boris Bede missed the extra point that would've tied the game.

Anthony Rizzi was born in Nunavut and three years after he was born, he moved to Montreal where he was raised. Nine years later, Anthony's family made the move to Fort McMurray.
His mom is actually from Dauphin so what happened next for Anthony isn't that surprising. The recent junior hockey commit came to Dauphin and joined the Clippers high school hockey team and he also tried out for the Parkland U18 Rangers. Rizzi said living in Dauphin was a tremendous time and playing at a high level was a great opportunity for him.
"I loved every second, living in Dauphin was nothing short of amazing," said Rizzi. "I will forever be grateful for my time in Dauphin, I had some great coaches and made some amazing friends."
While Rizzi's stay in Dauphin was short -- the season was cancelled very early because of the pandemic -- he feels that he left Dauphin in a better place when it comes to on-ice skill than when he arrived not long before.
He was back in his Fort McMurray roots for this past season and he put a quality campaign together playing with the U18 AA Barons. Across 29 games, Rizzi scored 11 times and added five assists.
"It was a pretty solid season, I was put in situations where I could succeed," offered Rizzi.
While his time as a Baron has come to an end, Rizzi's hockey career hasn't as he's off to Chilliwack to join the Jets who are a member of the Pacific Junior Hockey League. Anthony was approached by the Jets at the Western Elite Hockey Showcase in Edmonton a few months ago and he is familiar with Chilliwack having visited there in the past.
"I'm ecstatic, main camp is already coming up next month," ended Rizzi. "I'm already working out hard and getting on the ice as much as possible, I'm really looking forward to joining the team next month."

The Layne's Stars fast pitch team is once again champions as they continued their impressive season over the weekend.
Playing in Cross Lake, the team downed the D-Backs in the final, 5-3. Prior to their championship win, the team downed the Cross Lake Thunder in the quarterfinals and dispatched the D-Backs for the first time in their next game.
The D-Backs had a chance at revenge after winning their semifinal; however, the team based out of Mallard was too strong as they often are.
On the women's side, the lady Stars also came out on top as they beat Cross Lake in the finals. If you're looking for something to do this weekend, the Stars will now host a tournament this weekend at Vermillion Sportsplex.
