At 4:30 this afternoon, bodies will start flying, some like to call it a collision course on a football field, but the Dauphin Clippers football team call it their home opener, as they hit the field to host the Swan Valley Tigers.

"Everyone is really excited, they've all been pumped up since the first day of practice for this," said Shayne Montpetit, Head Coach of the Clippers football team. "This is the kid's first opportunity to let the energy they have out. You can only do so much at practice, you want them to be safe and to not take it too hard on their teammates, but today, they can let it all out."

The Clippers come into this game as Champions of the Rural Manitoba Football League, the past two seasons, as they begin their quest for three in a row.

"As a coach, I'm going to try and get them to keep their mind on the game at hand, but right from the start they've been thinking about the three peat," said Montpetit. "It's my job to keep them grounded, but at the end of the day, it's about having fun out there.

Montpetit mentions the only way the team can be beaten today, is if they beat themselves.

Kickoff for the Clippers home opener is set for 4:30, and there is no admission fee.

"It's going to be a beautiful day, and there is going to be two good football teams there," said Montpetit. "Swan Valley is always a competitor. You can get yourself a burger, and watch some young guys who have been playing football for a long time, have a fun time.

Next week, the Clippers are off to Southwest for their second game of the season.
