When the Transcona Railer Express hit the ice yesterday to kick off their preseason training camp, 19-year-old, Branden Storey was there.

Storey, a native of Grandview is no stranger to local hockey, as he played three seasons with the Midget AAA Parkland Rangers from 2013-2016.

Last year, Storey began his season with the OCN Blizzard, before finishing the season with the Grandview Comets, where he put up nine points in 13 regular season games and added two points in two playoff games.

Storey is one of several off season recruits that the Express went after.

"I just decided around Christmas time last year that I was going to University, and I wanted to play somewhere in the MMJHL," said Storey. "Connor Shaw talked quite a few times to me about coming to play, and he put a good word in with the General Manager, then he called me and offered me a spot, and I decided this was a good spot for me."

The Express are coming off a 17-27-1 season last year, but Storey isn't paying too much attention to that.

"The most exciting part about this all is not knowing any of the guys, outside of Connor," said Storey. "I get to make a ton of new friends, and the team is going to be very good this year, and we're going to have a shot at winning the Championship."

Storey notes that the coaches can expect a pretty laid back, stay at home defensemen, that has a good shot and is physical.

Storey and the rest of the Express return to the ice this evening, as they get set for a preseason tournament beginning this Friday and going until Sunday.
