The Selkirk Steelers have dominated the first edition of monthly player awards.

Four Steelers were honoured with the only non Steeler recognized being Cole Sheffield of the Dauphin Kings.

Original 16 Goaltender of the Month: Cole Sheffield (Dauphin)

Cooking up a good meal so far this season, Cole was brilliant over the first four games of the season, winning all of them with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .966 save percentage. Sheffield also had one shutout and was 61 seconds away from another.

Cole gives Dauphin a great chance to win every night and the Kings will look to get back in the win column on Friday when Portage is in town.

RBC Player of the Month: Luke McCarthy (Selkirk)

The biggest surprise of the season could be the Steelers. They won just three of their first 13 games last season and this year, they have not lost. They survived a scare with a 3-2 shootout win over the Blues on Tuesday as they won their sixth straight game to start the season. They're ranked fifth nationally.

In four games last month, McCarthy led the way with four goals and four assists. Luke played 26 games with Waywayseecappo last season.

Chevrolet Rookie of the Month: Rohan Guevarra (Selkirk)

Impressive is an understatement. Rohan has come out of the gates flying with points in five straight games to start the season. He had three multi-point outings and is second in the league scoring race with eight points.

Manitoba Pork Peak Performer: Noel Olsonawski (Selkirk)

He easily could have been named the goalie of the month.

Across three starts to begin the season, Noel turned away 80 of 82 shots and had a 26-save shutout. He had a sparkling 0.67 goals-against average and a .976 save percentage. Noel played 2500 minutes last year between the pipes, the third most in the league and will be a workhorse this season.

Safe Work Manitoba Defenseman of the Month: Owen Johnston (Selkirk)

He leads the league when it comes to back-end scoring and Johnston is doing a great job defending his zone.

It's no surprise that he was named the defenseman of the month.
