It was a dream weekend, it was a perfect weekend for the Parkland U18 Rangers as they opened their season by earning four points, the maximum possible.
The team used a five-goal third period on Saturday and a three-goal third period on Sunday to skate past the Central Plains Capitals and Pembina Valley Hawks. On Saturday, Brayden Budolowski and Quinten Fisk led the way with a pair of goals as the Rangers hammered Central Plains, 7-2. Dayson Martin, Cade Legaarden and Noah Smigelsky also scored for Parkland in the win while Piet Mierau turned away 18 shots.
Then on Sunday, Mierau was the star of the show as he made 45 saves in the win. Legaarden had another goal while Forrest Karlson scored his first as a Ranger. Noah Smigelsky and Alex Campbell also scored for Parkland.
Saturday's game was also one that Josh Tripp will never forget as the Swan River native won his first game as a head coach at the AAA level.
Parkland (2-0) will host Eastman for a pair of games next weekend, Darnell Duff and Jeff Henson will have the call of Saturday's game opening with the pregame show at 7:20.
