Men's Scramble:
Scott McCallum and Riese Gaber are bringing home a championship.
McCallum of Dauphin and Gaber of Gilbert Plains capped off their magical run at the Tamarack Tournament on Saturday by beating Chad Daciuk and Lyle Meek in the final. En route to winning a title, the Parkland duo defeated the top overall seed of Jared Jacobson and Jordan Trotter and won four straight matches. The men's scramble was a new event this year and they teamed up to get the job done in their first try.
In the championship flight consolation bracket, Jerron Kyle and Mike Sparrow came up short in a great battle against Lance Prytula and Trevor Fox.
Men's:
It was an incredible run, but it has ended in defeat.
John Tomlinson lost to Dustin Morton in the first flight championship bracket while Kody Fawcett won the consolation side in the championship bracket. The 2024 Tamarack men's champion is Chris Knoop, who entered the match play portion of the event as the third seed and beat Joel Baron on Saturday.
Jake Wiens will have plenty of bragging rights for the rest of the season. In the fifth flight consolation side, the Dauphin golfer won his third straight match, this time beating Terrill Swaney to win the consolation side.
Master Men's:
His home course is the Clear Lake Golf Course so Saturday's ending to the event was extra special.
Ron Cornell, who finished inside the top 10 in Golf Manitoba's senior championship last month, beat Kevin Ziolkowski on Saturday to win the Master Men's championship flight.
Keith Fawcett won the championship flight consolation side as he beat Darren Graves on Saturday.
It was a good run for Dean Cooley but it ended in defeat. He lost on Saturday afternoon against Murray Kawchuk.
Junior Men:
He is one of the top junior golfers in the province and he's now a Tamarack Champion.
Grady Chuback, who beat Boston Karlson earlier this week, downed Tate Bercier on Saturday to win the championship bracket while Jaxon Jacobson of Brandon won the consolation championship.
Senior Men:
In Terry Stitt we trust.
Stitt capped off a great event by beating Gerald Ehnes on Saturday as he won the championship flight consolation bracket. Dean Murray also competed in the senior men's; however, he was eliminated by Ehnes earlier in the week.
The 2024 Tamarack Tournament has now come to a close and what a week it was. Registration for the 2025 event will begin in January.
UPDATE #10 - August 24 - 2:00 a.m.
Men's:
The top overall seed has seen his tournament end. After cruising in his first two matches, Evan Nachtigall lost to Joel Baron on Friday. Baron will now play Chris Knoop for the championship on Saturday.
Kody Fawcett will play in the championship flight consolation final on Saturday against Ross Sheard.
In the first flight, John Tomlinson's roll on the golf course continued and he will also play for a title. In an elimination match, the Sifton product beat Shawn Dickson and will now play Dustin Morton, the top-ranked golfer in the flight at 12:33.
It was a battle of Dauphin and Jake Wiens came out on top. Going up against Lawson Yates in the fifth flight consolation, Wiens downed Yates to advance to Championship Saturday where he will go up against Terrill Swaney.
Men's Scramble:
The incredible run continues for Riese Gaber and Scott McCallum. They won their third straight match on Friday and will now play for a title against Chad Daciuk and Lyle Meek. McCallum and Gaber were ranked eighth heading into the match play portion of the event while Daciuk and Meek are ranked 10th.
On the consolation side, Jerron Kyle and Mike Sparrow have a tee time on Saturday after winning their Friday match. They will play Trevor Fox and Lance Prytula.
Master's Men:
Keith Fawcett has advanced to the final day of the tournament.
The Clear Lake Golf Course member beat Chris Patrick to advance to Saturday's final, where he will go up against Darren Graves.
Over in the consolation seventh flight, Bill Martinook will play Brian Deacon on Saturday with a title on the line.
Senior Men:
Terry Stitt has found his game at the perfect time.
He bounced the top-ranked Melvin Montgomery in the championship consolation flight on Friday and now, he's booked a tee time against Gerald Ehnes off the first tee at 11:57 on Saturday.
UPDATE #9 - August 23 - 2:00 p.m.
Men's:
Kody Fawcett saw his A-side championship dreams end in the Round of 16 in the championship flight, but he will play for a consolation title. He went his second straight match on Friday, this time downing Marcus Friess 2&1. He will go up against Ross Sheard on Saturday morning.
In the championship A-side flight, Chris Knoop made extremely quick work of Kolby Day in winning the match 6&5.
Master Men's:
He finished inside the top 10 in Golf Manitoba's senior championship at the Selkirk Golf & Country Club and now at his home course in Clear Lake, he's playing for a title.
Ron Cornell beat the top-ranked Rod Klassen in the championship flight on Friday to advance to Saturday's final.
Dean Cooley of Dauphin is also off to a championship match. As the third seed, Cooley has advanced to the final in the fourth flight while Bill Martinook will play for a consolation title in the seventh flight.
Ladies Scramble:
Joanne Stitt and Geri Menzies saw their event end as they lost to Maddie Pennell and Jordyn Griffin.
UPDATE #8 - August 22 - 9:30 p.m.
Men's:
The top seed is still alive and another major upset happened on Thursday at the Tamarack.
Evan Nachtigall cruised in his Round of 8 match against Tyler Polanski and will now play Joel Baron in Friday's semi-final. Kolby Day; meanwhile, of Brandon, provided the major upset. As the 10 seed, he knocked off Josh McPhail, who entered the match as the second seed.
In the first flight, John Tomlinson is rolling along. He's off to the semi-final round after defeating William Fawcett. Tomlinson is a past flight winner at the event and will now play Shawn Dickson on Friday.
Christian Laughland's event ended after losing his match in the second flight consolation bracket while Noah Wiens' Cinderella run continues. He is the 15th seed in the fourth flight and he won his second match on Thursday and is semi-final bound on Friday.
It's Dauphin vs Dauphin in the fifth-flight consolation bracket. Jake Wiens, the top-ranked in the flight will go up against Lawson Yates on Friday. A berth in the final is on the line.
Rob Bouchard saw his event end as he lost a close battle against Keith Taylor.
Men's Scramble:
Riese Gaber and Scott McCallum. They know how to get the job done and they're semi-final bound after bouncing the top-ranked duo of Jordan Trotter and Jared Jacobson. They will now play the 13 seed on Friday.
Lance Delamare and Mark Odut lost their match and have been eliminated while Jerron Kyle and Mike Sparrow stayed alive with their victory in the championship flight consolation side.
Juniors:
Boston Karlson gave it a good run, but his event has come to an end. He was defeated by Grady Chuback on Thursday. Chuback is one of Manitoba's top junior golfers and has been on a mission this week.
He will now play Tate Bercier in a battle of the top two junior qualifiers in the final.
Linden Smigelsky; meanwhile, is playing for a title on Saturday. He won his second match in a row, this time upsetting the second-seeded Uli Moller.
In the third flight, Cash McCallum came up short.
UPDATE #7 - August 22 - 12:30 p.m.
Anthony Wiens has a tee time confirmed for Friday at the Clear Lake Golf Course.
Going up against Jackson Potter on Thursday, Wiens, the top-ranked golfer in the eighth flight, took care of business. He will now play the 13th-ranked Chad Deprez in a semi-final on Friday. Should he win that, he will advance to Championship Saturday.
Bart Michaleski's tournament has come to a close quicker than he would have hoped. After he was upset in his A-side fourth flight match by the 14-seed, Michaleski was again upset on Thursday.
Entering the bracket as the third seed, Michaleski lost to Mark Schneider, ranked sixth. His tournament has come to an end.
Jason Yates' tournament has also come to an end. In the fourth flight, Yates could not get it going as he lost back-to-back matches.
UPDATE #6 - August 21 - 7:30 p.m.
Junior Men's:
Boston Karlson is moving on.
Entering the championship flight in the junior event ranked fourth, Karlson of the Gilbert Plains Country Club downed Cameron McDonald. He will now play the top-ranked Grady Chuback and a spot in the final is on the line. Chuback is the defending champion.
Tate Bercier will play Kaeson Fisher in the other semi-final.
Cash McCallum also came up clutch on Wednesday. Playing in the third flight as the four-seed, McCallum took care of business against Bodie Clegg. He will now go up against Ben Sparling, the eighth-ranked player, who upset Noah Jensen on Wednesday.
The first flight also featured a big upset as Linden Smigelsky of Dauphin, the sixth-seed, downed Kolby Lavich, the third-seed. Brayden Hamm, the eighth-seed pulled off the biggest upset when he downed the top-ranked Brody Pomeroy.
Master Men's:
It was a battle between members of the Clear Lake Golf Course and Ron Cornell will have bragging rights for the rest of the summer.
He edged Keith Fawcett, 3&2, on Wednesday in a Round of 8 match at the Tamarack Tournament. Cornell is the fifth seed in the event and will play in a semi-final against Rod Klassen, the number one overall seed.
Bruce North, the number-three seed will go up against Kevin Ziolkowski in the other semi-final.
Dean Cooley's championship dreams are still alive. Entering the fourth flight as the third seed, Cooley downed Bill Johnston to advance to the semi-final, where he will play Ben Clark, the second seed.
Senior Men's:
Dean Murray didn't quite have enough on Wednesday.
He went up against John Paddock and came up short and is now off to the consolation side.
UPDATE #5: August 21 - 2:30 p.m.
Senior Men's:
Larrie Kidd will continue to play for a championship while Terry Stitt has been relegated.
Kidd, who plays his golf at Clear Lake, downed Stiff on Wednesday, 3&2, to advance to the semi-finals in the championship flight. Stitt; meanwhile, will now move to the consolation side.
Larrie will now play Geroge Sheard, who previously hammered Melvin Montgomery, 8&7. Sheard is the top-ranked golfer in the senior men's championship flight after shooting an 82 in his qualifying round while Kidd shot an 86 which means a great semi-final is on the way.
Ladies Scramble:
Geri Menzies and Joanne Stitt came up short in their bid to remain on the A-side on the second flight.
They lost 2up to the Becke and Mona Kille.
UPDATE #4: August 20 - 8:40 p.m.
Championship Flight:
Josh McPhail, entering the flight as the second seed, took care of business in his first match to advance while Kody Fawcett lost in extra holes to Kolby Day of Brandon. The tournament's top seed Evan Nachtigall won his first match.
1st Flight:
It was Sifton strong on Tuesday in Clear Lake. John Tomlinson, who is a past flight winner at the event, capitalized on his opportunities and made some key saves in beating Chanse Robertson to advance to the Round of 8.
2nd Flight:
Greg Misener of the Clear Lake Golf Course entered the flight as the top seed and did not disappoint in his opening match. He made quick work of Carter Sawchuk and will now play Nolan Tutkaluk in his next match.
Christian Laughland gave it a great push on Tuesday in his debut match at the Tamarack Tournament but came up short.
He lost 2&1 against Mike Godfrey and will play his next match on Thursday on the consolation side.
3rd Flight:
Steve Desroches of Dauphin will have to get on a roll and will only be able to win a consolation title.
Desroches, the 12th seed in his flight, came up short against Brock Trotter. He will play again on Thursday.
4th Flight:
He has pulled off the upset of the tournament so far and he's Dauphin strong.
Noah Wiens, ranked 15th in his flight, pulled off a major upset in downing the second-seeded Mark Williams. He will now play in a Round of 8 match with an opportunity to advance to the championship bracket Final 4.
Jason Yates; meanwhile, lost his match and will head to the consolation side.
5th Flight:
It wasn't Jake Wiens's day. The 16 seed came up short against Paul Johnstone and like Yates, will play in a consolation match.
Lawson Yates, ranked fifth entering the match-play portion of the event, also came up short. He lost to 12th-ranked Ian Stirling.
7th Flight:
Rob Bouchard is strong.
One of the main pieces that put together the Gary Brandon Memorial Tournament every May, Bouchard came up clutch late to keep his championship dreams alive in the seventh flight. He will now play the 15th-ranked Keith Taylor in the next round.
8th Flight:
Anthony Wiens entered the bracket as the top-ranked player and there were no surprises on Tuesday.
He took care of Kirby Bateman and continues in the championship bracket.
Men's Scramble:
Jordan Trotter and Jared Jacobson, who entered the match-play portion as the top seed are on their way to the quarterfinals after downing Team Bastone in their first match.
Scott McCallum of Dauphin and Riese Gaber of Gilbert Plains are moving on as their dream of winning a championship together is still alive. They won their first match and will now play the top-ranked team of Trotter and Jacobson.
Lance Delamare and Mark Odut of Dauphin, entering as the second seed, also won their first match and will play the 10th-ranked team of Chad Daciuk and Lyle Meek, who completed an upset of the seventh-ranked team in their first match.
Jerron Kyle and Mike Sparrow, entered Tuesday as the 12th seed, lost to Chris Bridges and Derek Cantlon.

Seniors:
Dean Murray finished seventh in qualifying in the senior's event after a 20-over, 92 on Monday. Dean, who is a member at the Gilbert Plains Country Club, had one birdie on the short par 3, 3rd hole. He also had five par during his round

Rod Klassen and Darren Graves both set the pace as both ended up 5-over after 36 holes of play. Bruce North; meanwhile, was one stroke behind after qualifying. Keith Fawcett of the Clear Lake Golf Course was just behind at 7-over after 36 holes.

UPDATE #2: August 19 - 2:30 p.m.
Grady Chuback went pin hunting at the Clear Lake Golf Course on Monday.
Opening up the junior event of the Tamarack Tournament, Grady started with back-to-back bogies on 12 and 13 before catching fire, draining five straight birdies from holes 14 to 18. He then made five birdies on his first eight holes on the front nine before ending his round with a bogey on the tricky ninth hole. He posted a 7-under, 65. He will enter the match-play portion of the event as the top seed.
Boston Karlson of Dauphin; meanwhile, made three birdies on the front nine in posting a 1-over, 73, and will be in the championship bracket. Linden Smigelsky has two birdies in carding an 8-over, 80, while Cash McCallum shot an 88.
The Tamarack Tournament is underway at the Clear Lake Golf Course.
Men's:
Evan Nachtigall of Brandon is this year's medallist. On Saturday, Evan posted a clean round of 7-under, 65. He had seven birdies and not a single bogey. Then on Sunday, Evan was 3-under after five holes but ended up shooting a round of 72. He won medallist honours by four strokes and will enter match play as the top seed.
