A very well-deserved two-day break is what the Melfort Mustangs will enjoy.
Fuelled by Bo Eisner of Swan River, the Mustangs finished atop Group B at the Centennial Cup, making them advance directly to the semi-finals, which won't be played until Saturday. The Mustangs won three games in regulation and one in overtime to finish with 11 points, just one less than Collingwood who finished first overall.
Thursday is a complete off-day at the tournament before quarter-final action takes place on Friday. In the quarter-finals, Jayce Legaarden of Grandview and the rest of the Winkler Flyers will be going up against the Calgary Canucks who beat the Whitecourt Wolverines in four games to win the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) crown. Calgary had two regulation wins, one overtime win, and one loss in pool play.
The other quarter-final has the Miramichi Timberwolves of the Maritimes Hockey League (MHL) going up against the Navan Grads of the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL). The Timberwolves finished second in Group B with eight points while the Grads finished third in Group A with seven points.
