The Dauphin Kings are now on the brink of elimination in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League finals.
In front of a packed crowd at the T.G. Smith Centre on Friday night, the Steinbach Pistons only needed one goal as they downed the Kings, 2-0, to take a three games to two series lead.
Dauphin did outshoot the Pistons in the game; however, they were unable to beat Will Hambley who got the start in the net and he was tremendous, making 34 saves.
Carson Cherepak; meanwhile, was incredible for Dauphin as well, he made some massive saves in the first as Steinbach came out firing and created some great scoring chances.
Jack Rogers scored the game-winning goal on the man advantage just 8:38 into the game off a weird bounce that went on the back glass and bounced right in front of the net where Rogers was waiting for it.
Braden Birnie scored into an empty-net with five seconds left. Dauphin is now in must-win territory as they head home for game six on Sunday at Credit Union Place. Dauphin must win that game to keep their season alive and if they do, game seven will come back to Steinbach next Wednesday.
Special teams were also the difference in the game as Dauphin went 0-for-3 on the man advantage while the Pistons went 1-for-4, with their lone powerplay goal being the game-winner.
