The Dauphin Clippers varsity girls basketball team is one of the top teams in the province and they're off to the provincials next month in Neelin.

First, the team's tune-up schedule continues as they'll be in Brandon on Saturday to play Vincent Massey. In the most recent rankings, the team was ranked second in the province, only behind the St. James Jimmies.

Kaylee Hogue is one of the leaders on the team and she says it's been a great year so far.

"It's been really exciting, it's always a great feeling when you're ranked so high in the province," said Hogue. "We've worked really hard and everyone is excited about moving forward, we're happy with what we've done."

A lot is said about what the players are doing on the court and rightfully so, but it's hard to take the next step as a team without a good coach. Thankfully for the Clippers, they have a great coaching staff led by Steve Hudyma. Steve dedicates countless hours to the game and he's being recognized by MHSAA as the Clipper bench boss has been named the Payworks Coach of the Month for February.

Hudyma's passion for the game is evident and it has enhanced the love of the game for the players on the team.

"He's been my coach for seven years and he's the best coach that I have ever had, plain and simple," ended Hogue. "He's such an amazing coach, he's always so patient with us and he encourages us when we need it. Everyone loves him and he's so deserving of this award."
