In a few months' time, Jose Mekish-Lacquette will make his way to Humber College and when he does, he'll look to make the school's golf team. And while Jose still has to wait several months for that, he will certainly head to college sharp.

Thanks to a solid season on the links in 2021, Jose has been invited to be a part of Golf Manitoba's Development Team Gold in 2022. It's the top Golf Manitoba junior team and it features weekly practices from January to April and Jose also gets a membership to the Golf Dome.

"I was really excited when I found out because I've always wanted to take my game to the next level," said Mekish-Lacquette. "Being a part of this team will help me achieve my goals and move to the next level."

Run by Derrik Godwin who is the head coach for the University of Manitoba Bisons golf team, Jose will also receive semi-private fitness training, weekly team training sessions, and mental training, just to name a few things that are included. When next year's golf season arrives, Jose will also battle in Mundie Putter competitions and he also gets his fair share of Golf Manitoba apparel.

"It's pretty exciting, I mean playing all year round, it gives me such a greater chance of improving," said Mekish-Lacquette.

Jose finished in a tie for fifth at the junior provincials back in July which earned him the right to compete in the national championships, where he narrowly missed the cut.
